Hi again, I recently posted about Angelfish and realised it would be cruel to keep them in a 15 Gallon Tank, So ive been doing some research on Betta's. More pacifically Female betta's as i understand males will kill eachother. I hear its best to have Female betta's in a group of 3 or more to establish pecking order. I just wondered how many I could get for my 15 gallon tank. Alot of sites of been on say you can easily have 5 in a 10 gallon but I wanted some decent opinions as opinions on random sites can sometimes be misleading and written by people who dont care if their fish dies and just wants it to look pretty.

Many Thanks Ace OF sPades

Well, if we go on the inch per gallon rule, you can have 5 as a maximum, as they can potentialy get to three inches each. However, they are mildly agressive, so I'd mebe look at the minimum recomended group size, of three and some bottom dwellers, such a pgmy corrys. This will give them more space to each fish, and reduce aggression on the "runt".
Pgmy corrys stay very small, and a group of 6 is easly achiveable, as they produce little waste. Though technicaly on the inch per gallon rule you would be overstocked with a group of three fighters, and six pgmy corrys, it is important to remember that the "rule" can be felxed and streached to some extent.

Ahh Thanks Mate, Very Helpful

Hi was just wondering how about 1 Male Betta and a few peaceful fish?

Here is my tank first day I bought it

and here it is today, still waiting to put fish in it

It is always kind of a gamble when you put male bettas with other fish - even if they are peaceful. Any fish can be easily tempted to nip the long flowing tail of a betta. The fish that come to mind that you could try are tetras or danios. However, danios are probably overactive for a betta and might stress it out - making it more agressive, and personally, I think there is a little bit of piranha in every tetra - even the mildest might nip! You could try some type of tetra and see what happens - just be prepared to take them back if need be.
Or, you could have one male betta with a few otos and an apple snail - and maybe a few pgmy cories (not sure if males betas of compatable with cories but I can't think of why they wouldn't be). HTH.

Again thanks for the help, Im new so all info is very useful. Ive been researching tropical fish and care for about 2 weeks now.

Ditto Above^^

As said Male Bettas are a difficult fish to mix with others. Most tank mates will nip or get nipped when with a betta. It is possible for it to work, as I have done so myself on occasion, but most ofen you don't do too well mixing them.

Might I add, that your tank realy improved in the second photo :good:

All the best

EDIT TO ADD: How are you planning to cycle the tank? If you haven't already, please read the pinned topic on fishless cycling
