So it's all rather exciting [or at least it would be if I didn't have flu and can't even contemplate setting up my new tank today] but anyway seeing as I've been busy making the preparations and I'm bored out my fluey mind this morning I thought I'd share with y'all what I'm planning.

I have a Juwel 3D black slate background to put in, 3 bags of playsand, 4 x 2ft pieces of slate, will be buying some real plants but have nice silk plants, lots of cave decorations too and my stocking plan is as follows:

Pygmy Cories
Peppered Cories
Panda Cories
Bumblebee Gobies
Peacock Gobies
Blue Rams
Gold Rams
Female Bettas
African Dwarf Frogs
Panda Platys
Clown Loaches
Kuhli Loaches
Chain Loaches
Bumblebee Shrimp
Cherry Shrimp
Tiger Shrimp
Algae Shrimp

Anything you would add or take away? Will be using mature media from both my 22 gallons in the new set up plus all the decs and plants.

Clown loaches go NOM NOM on Mel's shrimp :(

I would just stick with the smaller loaches. :good:

What size tank is it? And what's the foot print of it? You seem to have a lot of bottome dwelers, just because you have a fair few caves doesn't mean that there won't be any fights for territory. I'd reccomend no clown loaches, same goes with the bumblebee gobies as the bumblebee gobies are brackish. Aswell, be careful with the peacock gobies as they tend to enjoy live foods and will generally ignore pellets, meaning that your shrimp may be at risk.

Bumblebee gobies do just as well in fresh as they do in brackish. :good:

As long as there is plenty of java moss, I'm pretty sure the shimp will be fine. :good:

How many lph should a tank this size be pumping?
Alsoooo there are 5 compartments in the filter tray, where shall I put the carbon, I've never used carbon before, do I need to use it? I usually use sponge, wool and ceramic rings x

you want to use some kind of bio media as well as the ceramic rings, ceramic ring are mechanical and wont do all the filtering your going to need so either get some bio balls or i poersonally recommend this <a href="http://www.charterhouse-aquatics.co.uk/cat...tion-p-171.html" target="_blank">http://www.charterhouse-aquatics.co.uk/cat...tion-p-171.html</a>

what filter is it your going to be using? i think 2 litres is enough for all but the biggest externals 1 litre may ever suffice but i dont know yet

you dont really need carbon either because eventually it will leech toxins, best saving it for when you do actually need to take something out of the water, i'd put more bio media in instead :good:

as stated already the clown loaches WILL eat the shrimp no questions asked and if size permits which one day it will the peacock gobies will join the feast.

Clown Loaches = Bad idea. They get pretty big for a tank < 75 Gallons.

And rams are kinda delicate.

Clown loaches will be fine no where sells big ones so they will be small, and they bloody grow to slowly in my oppinion lol

ventually you will have to get rid of them as they will get to big as previously said by groovitudedude

I do think there's too many bottom dwellers in my list and given that I want to stock a lot of shrimp and ADF's too, can anyone list some good mid and top dwellers (NOT TETRAS OR BARBS!!) that would make up the space?X

a shoal of marbled hatchet fish are nice as top dwellers as long as there is no one that will borrow them
i keep these and there great to watch!

Since you are keeping shrimp, not having tetras and barbs really limits your choices, because anything bigger than them would eat the shrimp. Maybe rasboras?

I thought of hatchet fish actually maybe marble and silver would be good and then some galaxy rasboras on top of that would be cool too
