Hello everyone. I have a 60 gallon tall fish tank (48L by 24h by 12W) that I want to turn into a angelfish community tank. Currently in the tank I have 7 platies and 6 harlequins. I'm looking to get 2 juvenile angelfish and letting them grow out. Does anyone have any ideas for stocking? I'm prefer having smaller schooling fish (like tetras and rasboras) over larger fish like rainbows, rams, etc. Does anyone know if honey gouramis are compatible with angelfish? Anyone have any other ideas?
I DON'T want plecos or cories - I've kept them in the past and I just don't want them in this tank :)
Ideas:
2 angelfish
7 platies
6-8 harlequins
6-8 tetras or rasboras
3-5 honey gourmais???

Hi. Me again! Just want to say, once your angels mature they will eat anything that fits in their mouth, just to let you know. The honey gourami aren't extremely aggressive but you have to get only one male to keep all the fish safe, and they can be hard to sex. Also all those fish are soft water fish except the platies, if water is too soft for a fish it will have major skin problems, and if it's too hard minerals will build up in the organs of the fish. I would not recommend trying to mix these fish.

I agree with @HoldenOn the platys are hard water fish. I have both hard water and soft water tanks. If you have hard water you can use RO water to soften it but it can be a lot of work. Can you tell us what type of water do you have? If you are thinking tetras you should go with the larger tetras like Red eyed tetras.

Alright. I do realize that platies are hard water fish and most of the other fish are softer water fish. I'm probably going to move the platies to a different tank then. So are all the other fish compatible with one another?

My water is on the harder side, but I have a lot of tannin due to the driftwood in my tank, and that brings the ph and gh of my water down.
7.5 ph
9 gh
4 kh

I believe so, I've never mixed gourami and angels, but as long as you monitor them and have a tank to put them in temporarily it should be fine.

I also have a 10 gallon black water aquarium with 6 exclamation rasboras in it. The rasboras are full grown (roughly half a inch), do you think honey gouramis would work with them?
ph of 7
gh of roughly 7

Yes.

Okay thanks. I'm probably going to try the honey with the angel, if the angel gets aggressive, then I'll move the honey to the 10. Thanks for all the help!

Good luck. Honeys really only ever squabble amongst themselves.

Mixing gouramis of any species with angelfish is not recommended. They are both territorial fish and could well start to fight.

Both those tanks are too soft for the platy. Could you trade them at the fish shop for other fish you have on your list?

No they mean the water theyre already in is too soft.
