Ive got a aqua one 320 tank with 6 neons,10 black neons ,4 glowlights and 2 bronze catfish in and its been running fine for 6 months but the past few days ive noticed the glowlights & the neons going for there own kind. they will swim very fast at them head on and wizz around the tank ive also noticed a neon having 2 nibbles on a bronze's tail, i wasnt aware that neons were fin nippers?. And mainly on the neons there top and tail fins are getting ragged and some parts missing but the glowlights and cats are fine, yesterday i went and got 2 otocinclus to help with algae and today ive noticed 1 has almost no tail fin left now im positive they were fine at the shop but i cant be 100%. are the tetras wizzing about normal and what could cause them to nip and act like this?

The problem is that your tank is terribly overstocked, It is only an estimate because i don't know the volume of the tank but i'm pretty sure it is only around 10G and by the inch per gallon rule you can see that you are over double that. All Tetras are fin nippers and it is likely that the lack of space is bringing this behaviour out of them.,

Edit: actually having googled the tank it is only a 6G

I'm a newbie as well but it sounds like you definitly have fin nippers. Neons can be fin nippers..maybe it's a territorial thing. I would watch the the fish closely and try to figure out who is doing the 'nipping'. Do you have a hospital tank to put the 'injured' fish in so that their fins can grow back? Hope someone with more experience can help and good luck catching the culprits! :good:

I have the same tank, it's 28L. In my tank I have four dwarf pencilfish and 2 amano shrimp, whereas you have a whopping 22 fish in there. I really couldn't imagine having so many fish in such a small tank and I think that's probably the route of the agression problems.
I'd say you need to either get a larger tank or rehome quite a lot of your fish.

thanx for the replys i sort of figured as much tbh, i have been planning on getting a much bigger tank asap, the current one was my first ever tank and now ive got into the hobbie ive been on the look out for a new tank so i should be getting one soon :hyper:
