Hi buddies, I have decided to keep 6 Cherry Barbs (2 males & 4 females) in a 10 gallons tank with plants and sand. There would be no other fish. Is this tank size okay for them? Some sites say 20 gallons is the minimum for keeping Cherry Barbs. Would those experienced in keeping Cherry Barb please guide me.

Cherry barbs should be fine. The 6 fully stock the tank though. I'd get a trio & wait for babies. In a well planted tank you have a fair chance of having some survive

Babrbus titteya, (Cherry Barb), is not a naturally shoaling species. In the wild they are solitary. In small tanks, they are best kept as a pair, or 1 male 2 females. 2 males together may fight if there is insufficient space for them to keep a distance from each other.

How about a male with a larger harem, would that cause any problems?

I recommend a single pair, or at most a trio for your size tank. It doesn't take much for these fish to breed and the fry are very robust and easy to raise. I have already upgraded the tank from an 8g to a 36g because I have 34 fry that are quite developed.
