55 Gallon

Ok, so I've been setting up this 55 Gallon tank in my bedroom, and the stock list I had decided on was:

• Parrot Cichlid
• Green Severum
• Red Tailed Black Shark
• 8 - Tiger Barbs
• 6 - Black Skirt Tetra
• Gold Nugget Pleco

From what info I have gathered this setup will work just fine. Well it doesn't. I have gone through two rtbs in the last two weeks , with no reasons as to why . As far as I can tell none of the other inhabitants are bullying them, but they make it about 36 hours then I find them floating . I am now assuming that it is probably a bad supply of them as I have gotten them from petsmart . Either way, I'm now thinking of changing my mind on them all together. So here I am.
I am looking for suggestions of a fish that will most likely work with the fish list above minus the RTBS. What I want is a Blue Acara , though I have never seen one of these fish in any of the fish stores around here ever. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Blue Acara would be fine but you would have to up your filtration when they mature. If you want a male acara go for the one witch has the pointed fins, that indicates a male, if they are rounded thats a female, also if the edge of there fins are orange and not yellow then do not buy them as they are green terrors witch you do not want!

what about a festivum,nie fish they are or maybe a firemouth?if you cant get the blue acara i definitly suggest a festivum or a firemouth

would they tolerate non cichlid tank-mates?

I wouldn't try the tetras r barbs, barbs can get nippy, and the tetras would make a meal for a full grown sev

I've kept gold barbs with Sevs , the thing is that when you start out the Sev should be small.



My gold barbs grew to a massive 3 1/4" , I took them back where I bought them for credit , and the guy couldn't believe how big the had gotten .


Though a full grown parrot and sev could probably eat a 3 " barb , in the case of a well Fed severum that is not likely [ I.M.E .], I really have no experience with parrots .



It comes down to the individual fish sometimes .


Blue Acaras make nice pets as well .
