Ok I have posted on here about what to do for my setup. I have gotten replies about it and have decided I have no clue what to stock in my tank, so I will see if this will get me some ideas.

I want my tank to have a diverse amount of color(i.e. blue's, yellow's, reds/oranges). I want Malawi cichlids, and I want it to pe a peacefull tank. Please any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok, lets start afresh,

What are the dimensions of the tank?
This will give us and idea about what size fish would be best suited..

have you looked on other sites and had any background info on Malawi fish and stocking ideas??

say its a 4 foot tank, then that gives us an idea of what fish to stock..

i'd start a stocking suggestion as:

5 x labidochromis caerleus (yellow labs)

5 x Iodotropheus Speranges (Rusties)

5 x Ps. Acei Blue with yellow tails and fins

Try that for starters until we get dimensions from you :D

Plenty of colour - fairly docile malawi fish, comonly available and room for another species in there too :)

Hope this helps,

Dru.

PS. don't know if i can post this here as its a link to another site - but this is a cookie cutter for your specific tank and would be a good source of info for ya)

48" x 12" deep x 18" high
I have looked on the cichlid forum site. I really like the labs, and soloci(spelling) and I want some kind of peacock

personally i would not mix peacocks and mbuna

mbuna are aggressive by comparision and that can stress out the peacocks, particulalry the shy ones, this will lead to stressed fish that will at best not display proper colouration, but at worse get ill becuase of this..

i used to keep a few peacocks in my mbuna setup and it did not really work properly and it was not really fair on the fish either.

44 gallons. hmmm not very big for a BUNCH of mbuna but it could be done. (Rubs chin & thinks)

3 Labidochromis caeruleus

3 Iodotropheus sprengerae (rusties) only issue w/ these guys would be diet but if you fed mostly veggie compounded w/ krill it shouldnt be a problem.

1 male Aulonocara jacobfreibergi

1 male Aulonocara stuartgranti "German Red"

mbuna CAN be housed with peacocks if done correctly

I would agree that Aulonocara are fine with certain Mbuna species but to be honest, i would limit those species to the 2 suggested by Tattoodfishfan, rusties and labs. I personally wouldn't attempt to mix them with any other Mbuna unless i was looking at a 125 gal tank.

I have tried many times to 'bend this rule' and have to return/re-home a lot of Peacocks. :(

totally agree but its only a little tank he's got , so i can not see anything but issues becuase of it......

what do you mean about the diet issue - all mbuna eat veggie algae, as do the peacocks don't they or am i missing something here

I have labs and peacocks in the same 70g tank and have no issues yet. They are realtively small all under 3" except a couple of big labs. I also have a couple of afra in there.

As far as diet goes, as is said here quite often variety is the way to go. Mbuna as rule need a high veg diet but labs need a little more meat than the others. I feed mine day 1 flakes, day 2 brown cichlid pellets(sorry not sure the name, bought in bulk), day 3 flakes, day 4 freeze dried krill. day 5 flakes. day 6flakes, day 7 nothing.

everything but the rusties are omnivore or carnivore. rusties are herbavores. so thats where you might have bloating problems if not paid attention to, ny that I mean over feeding high protien foods.
