How do you think a tank would look with a species tank of only yellow labs, black background, black sand, and blue glass chunks piled up to make the "rocks".

The glass wouldn't have any sharp edges and a timer would run a daylight tube in the day and actinic tube in the evening. :hyper: :good:

I think they misread your post or was thinking of another post. But it was pretty funny , from my sense of humor stand point. I would stay away from the blue glass. Other than that it should bring out the yellow thats for sure.

Yea I think they misread or something....or maybe it was a joke?

Anyway.....I think I might pursue the idea....if I can find the glass.....which I'm afraid I won't be able to. If I can locate some, I'll make sure the edges are dulled.....don't want the fish injuring themselves, or me cutting myself.

The aquarium pic got me thinking. The bottom rocks being directly on the bottom tank glass, I could fix a light to the bottom of the tank as this seems to have been done. That way the rock pile lights up, or at least the bottom half.

Note to the tang police, those tangs were added to the pic.

Also...for those worried.....the rocks will be secured via aquarium silicone. :good:

I used to have a 65g Lab tank. Black background, black gravel, white rocks looked very cool.

Oh sorry  just an idea, but why don't you maybe add some more color to the tank instead of just limiting yourself to all yellow? I mean it is up to you, but I would think you would get a little bored of the same exact fish. Just my .02

I think a lab species tank would be lovely. They really are interesting fish. However, I would suggest maybe going with a light colored rock and black sand, or dark rocks and lighter sand. In my experience labs don't color up to their best when in either an all dark or all light environment. Most fish will try to blend into their environment and the labs may end up darker than normal which would be a shame since their bright yellow color is most of their appeal.

 sorry, i could have sworn that a couple of years ago i read a thread fussing at someone for keeping multiple "lab" species together and allowing them to interbreed. i just misread the initial post as wanting to keep a tank stocked with multiple lab species :look: oops!

--EDIT--
see, this is what happens when you spend too much time in Cyprinids and Characins

Biff - Nice tank! Thanks for posting.

Nuke - I've had a color variety before and also saw your 90 gal pics and it looks great! The idea with this though is a species tank as I've never tried that before and it would be different. I honestly don't think I would ever get tired of the yellow labs they are beautiful fish with great tempermant as mbunas go. Part of the effect us them being all yellow fish is to contrast the black/blue effect of the tank. It would be more of a "show" tank than anything else.

dthoffsett - I've seen that discussed before and will take that into consideration. One thing is for sure I'm not looking for perfect yellow labs or the brightest yellows in the world, just enough of their yellow to contrast the dark in the tank. :good:

Yeah, I do agree it will be cool... your tank set up sounds like it'll look amazing! :good:
