55 Gallon Tank

Im am getting a 55 gallon tank. i need to get a filter for it any sugestions.

im having trouble deciding what kind of fish to put in it. I would like a mix of sizes and and colors, any sugestions on these, ive seen some puffer fish online are they good fish and if so what other fish can go with them

Mybe a external filter with a UV on it or summat, expensive but great.

Or maybe just do a undergravel filter with a powerhead on it or uplifts using pumps at either end, i personally swear by undergravel and think its the best way, but each to thier own although i do have 2 tanks with undergravel and 4 with internal filters and one with external lol

For that size tank the TetraTec EX700 or Fluval 305 would be more than adequete.
Puffer fish arent really community fish, but in a tank you size with a REALLY low stocking density you could get away with some Freshwater Amazon Puffer, you could keep these with fast smallish fish, but nothing with long fins. They like a heavily planted aquarium.

would the puffers do well with a school of tiger barbs or congo tetras

Oh no, they cannot be housed with tiger barbs or tetras. They will nip the fins and take chucks out of them. Puffers have teeth and are very aggressive.

Puffers should be species only tanks but that are just my opinion. You can get a school of dwarf puffers. They are absolutely adorable. Some puffers are brackish and some are saltwater so be sure you get a freshwater puffer.

how many african chichlids could i fit in this tank, also what are some other fish i could put in with them

African Cichlid Tanks

Africans are very specific, if you keep them then you can only keep them (in that tank). Fortunatly if you were to go Mbuna (African cichlids specific to lake malawi) there are plenty of nice bright colourful species to choose from and you can and should stock quite heavily
