I currently have a 29 gallon tank that is fully cycled, but I've been thinking about getting a larger tank in addition to having the 29 gallon. I have 3 big dogs at home, so I wanted to get at least a 55 gallon so hopefully they don't bump into it. ;) (The 29 gallon is in my room and they can't get to that one). I found an interesting ad on craigslist and wanted to see if you guys thought this was a good deal or not. For $250, it includes:

55 gallon glass tank
Basic double stand
Full length light fixture
AquaClear filter with extra foam and carbon inserts
Heater
Aqua Culture Dual ir pump, air hoses, and air stones
Aquarium vaccuum
Large/small nets
Scrubber wand
Gravel (if I want that - I'm not fond of the color)
Some decorative plants

Thoughts?

I say it is a good deal.

Was size is the Aquaclear? The 70 is $55, and I believe the 110 is around $70. Aquaclear is a VERY good HOB filter!

The heater is at least $25-$30 (depends on brand)

You can get a brand new 55 gallon tank for $130

Stands have a huge price range. I have seen Stands for a 55 gallon start at around $90, all the way up to $300-$400.

The light set is probable around $60?

Everything else is probably worth around $50-$70

So if you add up everything, you get about $450(that is including the cheapest stand and the 70 gallon filter)

What I just did (list all the prices) is a little silly and not the most accurate, but hope it give you a better idea.

I say $250 is a good deal, but if I were you, I would offer him $200 cash(Cash Talks) see if he takes it? If not, I would get it for $250!

Not sure! It didn't say in the ad. I can certainly ask. Thanks for pricing it out separately for me... that would have taken me HOURS! :) I'll keep ya posted!

It'll depend on the condition of the tank/stand. If they're in good shape, then it's a good deal

lol, that is one very obvious thing I forgot to mention.

Yeah, make sure that there are not any major unrepairable scratches, and make sure that the tank does not leak, and the stand is in good condition.

Yep - I should be easy to tell if the tank is leaking or not considering he still has water and fish in there. He's had a bunch of flakes, so he doesn't want to drain the water and move the fish until he has to. Sounds like he has other tanks and he's selling this one because he's remodeling the house and doesn't want to take down and put the tank back together 3 or 4 times.
If for some reason the stand is junk, what do you feel would be a fair offer for the tank and accessories?
