Sorry, I'm very new to the wonderful world of African Cichlids, and can't really figure out the right answer to this.

Using the fish index, I have decided I really want Electric Blue Johannii's and Electric Yellow's. I read that they need a 30+ gallon tank, and that they are fairly civil (as cichlids go). What I'm not sure about, is how many can go into a 55 gallon tank and be happy and healthy? I'm not interested in stocking it to the max and overfiltering to try to keep them alive. I mean, how many can live happily in a 55 gallon together?

Thank you in advance!

Theres a couple ways to do this if you can get adults you can do 1 male to 4 femals on both and if you go by the inch per gallon rule thats 44 inches of fish. If you can't get adults then buy 8 of each and only keep the dominent males of each species. Some will find this crowded and some will see it as a bare tank. But it does give you a guide line to what you can do. Also you might want to read up on those 2 fish as the johanni are more aggresive than the yellow labs. Also theres othe blue mbuna that have the electric blue name in it also so make sure you use the latin name when buying the fish.

also this is what i know as the electric blue. http://www.tropheus.info/riftlakes/cichlid...s_fryeri_e.html

Just to show you how common that name is if youi ask for electic blue.
