Hey guys, I've got a 75 gallon african tank right now (13 fish and BN pleco) and I was wondering how many is too many african cichlids in a 55gallon tank? my 55 gallon tank is being freed up next week (I PRAY) and I was wondering how many african cichlids could I put into it?? I was think about 8?? would this be fine? oh 8 plus 1 pleco so 9 I guess

I have a total of 14 fish. 10 Africans, 1 jewel, 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 pleco, 1 parrot fish in my 55.

Everyone gets along fine. You could put about 10-16 mbunas in a 55 gallon as long as you filtration is good and you have enough hidding spots. Since yuo ahve a pleco I would say 10-12 leaving room for the pelco.

I plan on getting about 4 more Mbunas some time in the future but I may transfer my pleco to my 30 gallon.

It all depends on the foot print of the tank IE the floor space and how you put the rocks and how many also a factor is the filtration. Mbuna are always better being over stocked aslong as you do more water changes and have the right filtration.

If its a 4ft tank then a max of 4 species of 4 with 1m-3f with the normal mbuna ie 4" but less if your going for the bigger species like crabo ect.

i have 15- well 17 15 mbuna and 2 small zebra plecos and its fine... imma actually maybey add 4 more(debating on this)
