im looking at doing a 30"x12"x15" planted tank and have been looking at lighting and i was thinking of using some quartz halogen capsules (12v 50w) with reflectors, has any body dun this or can tell me what you think of this.

Haven't a clue sorry. Ive not even heard of these types of light before, you got a pic or link?

Sam

EDIT - have just googled it, unless they do a blub designed for growing plants I personally wouldn't use them, as they probably wont produce the right sort of light. I take it these are generally spot lights too? In which case you'll probably find they direct a huge amount of light at a very small area and there will be very little elsewhere. Strip lights are good as they spread the light over the whole of the tank.

Halogen lights are very inefficient and put out a lot of heat. So, it's not a good idea.
