So 3 days ago my pregnant guppy's breathing was starting to speed up and I knew she should be dropping any day so I thought maybe that was the first sign! i kept a close eye on her, she would dart around once in a while, twitched her head a LOT and became really shy towards me (she use to always approach me when I came around.. very social..)

No fry in the tank the next day and that afternoon we had a blackout in our neighborhood because of a bad storm. So she had no filter and was probably over heated (around 80) It finally cooled down though so the temp in her tamp went down to 72 after a day of rain. Her breathing went back to normal and so did she. Actually she is eating more now than she did a couple days ago.

But she still looks a bit big. So I'm wondering maybe this is her consuming her fry because of the stress? She only looks really big after eating so I cant tell from my judgement.. I feel like my eyes are playing tricks on me because she will be my first that I have bread. Or maybe it just isnt time for her to drop yet?

I'm trying to get a pic of her as soon as she calms down a bit. She's swimming up and down the side of the tank right now. She seemed very excited when the lights finally came back on.

What sort of environment do you have her in? Try to make it more "secure", so she has more places to hide from "large scary thing", i.e. you..

I have 7 floating plants in my tanks which some stay in the middle cuz their under eachother so she has lots of places to hide. I made sure of that when I first found out she was pregnant. She's in a 10 gallons so I know she isnt stressed from lack of space.

I just checked on her this morning and now shes in the plants again breathing rapidly. She was swimming up and down the side of the tank for a good 4 hours last night though.. Still eating like a pig! But now she's so deep in the plants I cant get a good shot of her.. I can only see her face. Maybe she was just happy last night that she finally had light again... and a filter for that matter.

Hope she wasn't too bothered by the storm, looks like she must be ready if she is hiding from everything. I guess when they get so far in the pregnancy they can't reabsorb the fry and carry to term. Good luck

Well she's acting the same way she did 3 days ago so I really dont know.. I'm calling her bipolar now because she just cant seem to make up her mind. I've looked up so many signs to tell me when its close to time and the only one she shows is the rapid breathing and hiding in plants.

At first I thought the storm knocking the power out would actually help her since she would be in the dark but I guess not. Maybe that was her way of throwing a fit for not getting her bloodworms.. she only had crushed tettra pellets. (yeah shes a attention hogging diva lol)

Couple hours later shes swimming around the tank, still havent dropped.. Not sure whats going on anymore. Do they normally swtch so much like this?

Just did a quick search and it turns out that if she doesn't like the conditions of the water she can hold onto the fry, maybe give her a good water change and see what happens...

Some sites I looked at said due to poor water conditions their guppies took 2months to give birth

Oh wow, I did a water change the day she first started the head twitch.. maybe when the power was out it messed things up? Ill do another one today and see what happens. :) Thanks for letting me know about that!
