Hi, I have an extra 5 gallon tank and I just acquired a filter for my female bettas tank but the current is too strong for her so I'm going to put the filter on the 5 gallon and I'm thinking of getting a mix of glowlight tetras, Neon Tetras, and Cardinal tetras. how many should I put in there? thanks

None.
First of all, those tetra species need to be in groups of 6 or more of their own species. Already you can see that'll be too many (18 fish!). Even if you only keep one species, 6 is too many.
Secondly, cardinals and glowlights both grow to 2" - making them too large for a tank that small anyway.
If you then consider that all 3 species need a good amount of room to swim as they are relatively active and are non-territorial, a 5 gallon is out of the question.
Even a 10 gallon isn't adequate for glowlights and cardinals IMO (though neons would be about ok).

If you want something small and colorful, you need to look for something that doesn't school or is less active.
I'd reccomend getting 3-5 male endler's livebearers.
If you aren't too worried about color, a group of 4-6 mosquito fish would also fit in a 5 gallon as an alternative (Heterandria formosa not Gambusia affinis). These are also quite tolerant of lower temps.
Alternatively, get hold of some of the wild Betta species (ie: not Betta splendens) which won't mind the extra current quite so much.
If you are up for doing a little extra research, killifish may be the way to go. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with most of them myself. I propose a google search ;)

Ah, Killifish. I cant believe I forgot I had been trying to figure out how to afford a new tank and filter and heater and all for killifish, now I've got the filter and tank and only need a heater. So yes killifish are the way to go. Thanks, time to research.

Some pygmy rasboras and pygmy cories would look cool.

You could probably have a school of neon tetras.
