Hey guys, i have a 5 gallon i am going to use.. for maybe a hospital or a guppy tank.
whatcha think about that

Could i do live plants in that... if i got some lights over it

how many guppys could i put in.. i know 1 inch to every gallon but would 4 be ok u think

5gals is a bit on the small side for guppys, you'd only have room for say 1male and 2females or 3female guppys but it leaves no room for fry or if the guppys don't get along and harrass each other. Better to use the tank as a hospital tank in my opinion  .

Either a hospital tank (always useful) or a betta, I'd say. I find guppies are so active they really want more space to explore.

yeah small fish dont really work in that small of a tank. i have a 5G that i had cherry barbs in (1 male 2 females) but they just kept on swimming up and down the glass. so i moved them to a community tank and using the 5G for a betta now.

As mentioned the tank is a bit too small for guppies. How about cherry or amano shrimps?

I would use it as a hospital tank, as livebearers are active fish and need alot of swimming area.

shrimps are so cool - a 5G would suit them fine. also ADFs or a red clawed crab would be great :) they are so interesting to watch.

possiably a blue crab maybe??

or i could just do a DIY filter and make it a fry tank?

In my opinion, like many others in this thread, I suggest a hospital tank. If you really want to put something in it, I suggest dividing it in half and housing two bettas. Or some killifish also do well in 5g tanks. If you want livebearers, Endlers, which are smaller than guppies, may be alright, but again, you may have fry to deal with. I've never kept shrimp, they remind me too much of food, but many people here seem to enjoy keeping them.

I might use it as a Guppie tank actually, and just get 3 males, no females.
I have a betta and 2 corys in a 5G, and every time I look into it, It looks so empty,
But then again, its a 5G bowl front, so It looks different than a normal 5G would... :dunno:

blue crab? ive never seen one for sale. they grow too big for a 5 gallon anyway.

red clawed crabs are common crabs to be kept in aquariums only grow to like 2 inches or so and are very funny to watch. they need an undergravel filter, brackish half filled tank with a piece of bog wood that extends beyond the waters surface to rest out of water.

i would not recommend you put ANY small fish except a betta in this aquarium unless you use it for a hospital tank or if you decide to keep fry. the fish simply would not be happy and will have insufficient space to act like the fish they are.

personally i wouldnt divide it for 2 bettas. its better to just have 1 betta that has more room for enjoyment than have 2 that have not enough room.

Actually, you could very well divide the 5G.
That devided is about 2.5G's each, while the *comfertable* minimum for a betta is 1G.
Many betta keepers on here keep their bettas in 2.5Gs.

i dont get the point wit bettas.. why do ppl keep them in ... 1 gal lol

dont they get unhappy in such a small tank

yeah your bettas will live in a 1 or 2.5g but will they really be happy and have enough room to be a fish?

in my opinion no they wont. i certainly wouldnt recommend that anyone houses any fish in something under 5g, its not something that i would do and at the end of the day a 5g isnt going to cost much more than a 2.5g tank and i would rather have one happy fish than see 2 swimming around in a tiny space. i know for a fact that although i fit into the space inside a porta-loo, i certainly wouldnt want to live in one.
