I was waiting for my pregnant platy to drop, and went to the fish store for a breeding trap, and I spotted five baby black mollies in a tank. I pointed them out to the worker, and he gave them to me! So I now have five baby mollies in a breeding net and a separate breeding trap for my pregnant fish.

My question- how long can I keep these guys in the net before I have to free up a five gallon tank for them? Or is it just common sense? The five gallon is fully cycled and has a betta in it. I'm going to put him in my 29 gallon with or without a divider - don't know if he'll get along w. my other fish.

Anyway- I bought hikari first bites for the little guys, and I have regular flakes I can crinkle up. Since i work during the day and can't feed six times, can I drop in a few algae pellets or shrimp pellets for the little guys to munch on during the day, or would that foul the water? Is there anything else I need to do to ensure that my babies grow up healthy?

Just feed them twice a day (once in the morning & once at night) should be alright. They might grow slower compared to regular feeding fry but is good enough. I did that as I enjoy when they are small and cute. :)

I would let them out of the net after the first few weeks, they need swimming space to grow and develop. If you stick some plants in it will give them somewhere to hide. After the first few weeks they get a lot better at escaping anyway. Also, having plants in the tank provides more little critters for them to feed on when you are not there.
