Just this past weekend I bought a 5.5 gallon glass aquarium. It was a set, and came with a filter and an (optional) LED lighting system. For the most part, we've settled on buying 3-4 Danios. We haven't put in any decor, nor plants and ornaments. We haven't added gravel either. Essentially, it's just an empty tank with the filter running and its quite the sad sight. After buying and setting up decor, how long exactly should I wait to buy any fish? Also, if there are any other options for a small community besides Danios, I'm open to suggestions. This is my first filtered tank, as I've only had Bettas in the past which don't require it.

(Less importantly, with 3-4 fish in a tank of this size, would adding 1-2 snails make it too crowded?)

Sorry for all of the questions, but I want to make sure the fish don't end up dying off. Thanks in advance :)

You'll want to cycle your tank first before adding any fish, you can read more about it HERE.
You'll also want a liquid test kit, API is a popular brand for this, and some ammonia which you can find at Ace Hardware.

Which danios are you referring to? Even the celestial pearl danio needs a bit bigger than this but I imagine you mean zebra danios. They are much too active for this size tank, being better off in a 4ft long tank.

Bettas need filtered tanks just like any other fish, unless you plan on doing a lot of water changes

You can read more about betta care HERE. A betta is actually what I would suggest for this size tank, or some shrimp.
