OK I have made my mind up now and im going for a 4x2x2 very early next year. Now I have a few questions stocking wise. Mostly I just want to know if these fish can live in a fish only tank, and can live togther without problems.

Now I would rather go with a mix of more peaceful smaller fish, than a few large agressive ones at the moment.

I would like a yellow and regal tang, now I think I have asked before and these would be OK together if added at the same time and around the same size?

Could I keep a group of clownfish togther? Like a group of clown5 or 6 percula fish? Would something like that work and be woth while?

I have been looking through live aquaria and came across the richmonds wrasse and am wodering if they are hard to get and keep? They look amazing as adults.

I would also like to keep a tassle filefish, I have seen them at my LFS a few times and just wondering if it would work.

A bi colour or lemon peel angel

Would that mix of fish work? and what else (if anymore) would you mix with these fish?

Thanks for reading and any help!

not had personal experience of the tangs but what you suggest should be fine, though the regal will get pretty big.

as for the clowns, 'yes' but with caution. you would need to add them all at the same time and they must all be juviniles. if added this way you will most likely get one that will change to a female and will then have a 'harem' of males to choose from and spawn with.

wrasse would be fine.

the file fish as far as i am aware are very slow movers so when mixed with faster moving fish such as the tangs and wrasse may struggle to get enough food.

the angels would be fine also.

as for other suggestions, other wrasse would look good. maybe a scarlet hawkfish?

I would urge caution with buying several clowns unless you have a massive tank - having seen what happens once two clowns become a pair and host, it was not a pretty sight at all. So, unusually I will be disagreeing with Rob and saying, no the proposed tank is not large enough

Thanks for the fast replies guys!

Will the regal be ok in a 4x2x2 for life?

As for the clownfish, I was thinking that might happen. Maybe I could go with 2 larger clowns like maroon clowns or something insted then?

I love flame hawkfish but I have read they can be hard to keep unless in a reef tank?

Ahhh I will drop the tassle fish then

So

1 Yellow tang
1 Regal tang
2 Maroon clowns
1 Richmonds wrasse (or similar depending if I can find)
1 Bi colour or Lemonpeel angel

Would it be ok to add smaller fish aswell like

- Royal gramma
- 6 line wrasse
- group of firefish gobys (if they can be kept as a group)

Also just to add, the tank will have a fair ammount of ocean rock for decoration so lots of places to hide.

I don't see why it would be difficult to keep a hawk in a non reef tank - they are not picky eaters :good: and as you say make a great addition to a tank.

A apir of maroon, yellow banded clowns in their own Nem would look awesome :good: obviously you couldn't have the nem straight away, but after about six to eight months woo hoo

I was going to suggest maroon clowns too. I'm gonna disagree with Seffie and recommend the red and white striped one, not the red and yellow, as I think they're prettier. Absolutely beautiful looking fish! I love hippo tangs too. What might also look nice is a shoal of chromis. They are usually very peaceful fish and under the right lighting, look a gorgeous teal colour.

Its a shame you aren't having LR in the tank, as one that size with plenty of rock would be ideal for a mandarin, maybe even a pair if you can get them eating prepared foods. You could also have gobies in there. Royal grammas are stunning too.

Ahh thats cool, I wanted a flame hawkfish so im glad I can get one.

Im liking the maroon clown idea more and more, they are such pretty active little fish.

so now my tank stock is looking to be

1 Yellow tang
1 Regal tang
2 Maroon clowns
1 Richmonds wrasse (or similar depending if I can find)
1 Bi colour or Lemonpeel angel
1 Royal gramma
1 6 line wrasse
1 Flame hawkfish

Am I close to fully stocked with these fish?

They certainly are pretty and active but little they aint :p If I had started with a big tank I would have had them without a second thought - but there is just no way I would have given away my first pair of clowns
