a small chimp :hyper:

at the end of the day it is up to you, and what type of fish you like. you have a good size tank there and you could have a very nice mix of fish in it. you could just get away with a tang or two, but only the smaller ones. or even go down the puffer and trigger route. but like i said before its up to you.

if it were my tank i would go about filling it with LPS and SPS and have it as a sexy reef tank. :) but you dont want a reef tank which is cool.

ROB :good:

There are many options, such as smaller tangs, triggers, morays, filefish, puffers, wrasses etc. I would recommend still getting a cleanup crew of large snails and hermit crabs; relatively few fish will eat these.

definete going into it will be: a picasso, valentini, falco hawk and a sixline may put sixline in 15gal but i doubt he would be eaten by bigger fish so he may go in big tank.

dimensions: 72" and then its either 18" high 24" wide or vice versa!

i definetly want a harlequin tusk and maybe a porcupine puffer. eel if i get tank covered well, i would like a smaller tang i would ideally want a clown tang would 6foot be enough or would it need bigger as well.

il get a few large hermits.

i would also like a emperor angel but i think they may get slightly too big.... and of course another trigger havent decieded which trigger yet though most likely niger!

i already have a mini reef so that urge is filled, ideally id like a kinda pred tank!

IMO 6ft is much too small for a Clown Tang

Hermits would be eaten by a Picasso or Porcupine

Emperor Angels are great

i think big hermits should be safe, the valentini and picasso havent touched any of my mini hermits yet so hopefully the bigger robust ones should be okay but who knows when they get older and meaner!

and i love emperor angels and harlequin tusks ... its just the price im not too keen on :p

and yeh i think it may be too small but i just love clown tangs, but i really dont want one if im going to hinder its growth, how long does it usually take for them to reach max size cus ive seen really really small ones about 2-3 inches that would look dwarfed in a nano even.

ive got a few months to plan i think im going to do it slowly and try and get the best bargains out there, all this so my mini picasso can have a bigger home to play in :p

The problem with Clown Tangs is they are very active and need loads of swimming space

They can also be incredibly aggressive and are known for killing tankmates

Unless you intend to get an enormous tank I would advise against a Clown or Sohal Tang

yeh ive heard of all the stories of evil clown tangs however the experiance ive had with them mainly through work is that a full or close to full grown one didnt touch any mini sailfin tangs when they were introduced into the tank a few weeks after he was. i would prefer an achiles but they command a high price and arent too hardy are they.

i wanted something a bit different but not too expensive i think that may be impossible though :p might try and get down to tmc on weds and see if they have anything in or ideas too :)

Clown tangs are one tang that actually does live in the surge zone; all of that tang police mumbo jumbo does actually apply to this species. I wouldn't say a 6' is too small but it's the bare minimum. Try another medium sized Acanthurus instead - these have much to recommend them. Why not an orange shoulder, powder blue or sohal? These aren't as spectacularly coloured, but they are still very pleasing to look at and at least do not have venomous blades. The sohal in particular is, in my opinion, a very beautiful and majestic fish. They are the Red Sea version of A. lineatus and this is a plus in terms of healthy individuals being available.

Also you mention "hinder it's growth"... I'm afraid this only applies if one counts death as arrested growth.

Emperor angels also grow too large. Inch per inch they (in speculation) need more space than the largest Naso (again in speculation, as tank size "needs" are often a guess at best). These fish defend territories in the wild that are measured in acres. Instead, try a regal angel, or some kind of Holacanthus. Perhaps an annularis would fit as well, but I would recommend against most other Pomacanthus.

Hermits will probably be fine, especially if the fish is bought young and well fed. There have been many, many times where I have been told "this fish will kill this invert" only to do my own research, add the invert based on that, and have it live perfectly well. However, brittle stars and the tips of Acropora et al., plus any non-cleaning shrimp, small snails and fish, and possibly also asteroid starfish could make a good eating. A cleaner shrimp will also be eaten unless it is introduced at night, and the trigger is stuffed; it's chances of survival will be markedly increased if this action is taken, but nothing is guaranteed.

Beware if you decide to add large hermit crabs. The predaceous ones (Dardanus, Pagurus, etc.) could very easily kill a sleeping baby trigger if they happen to feel like it... luckily most of the time they usually don't. These animals are also quite capable of tearing most other marine life to #### but usually don't. Feeding level doesn't seem to make much of a difference with these guys. They do make sweet pets though.

Achilles tangs could be had if your flow rate is very high. These tangs tend to live a very active lifestyle as well.

clown and achiles and emperor angel have left my list for definete now.

sohal could be a possibility if i can get hold of one, we did howver get in a juvinielle orange shoulder and i like it it looks alot like a lemonpeel now but i like the grown up version better so may opt for one of these and maybe a yellow tang !

regal angel was my first choice angel then i looked at the price and though ouch, but i could try and get a cheaper juvinielle. i may end up going along a dwarf angel root, perhaps even a bi colour ive grown to like the little colour clashing fish!

all the easy to look after but grow huge fish seem to be so cheap and readily avaliable! the smaller peacefuller fish always seem to cost more! i might get a pair of royal grammas and a partner for my 6line wrasse, however i think i may of needed to add them together.

one fish i will definetly avoid is an underlatus, given a chance in a big display tank ... panther grouper attacked, picasso attacked, damsels attacked, all this from a fish half the size of everything else in the tank the only thing it didnt seem to attack is a bluethroat trigger.

cheers for all the advice and everything im not used to these big fish! just wanetd to push the boundries a bit see what can and cant be done!

would a porucpine puffer attack a valentini or vice versa?

sohal are as bad as clowns

damn lol! damn evil big pretty fish. i used to think 6foot was big but now i dont think i could fit a regal or a yellow in there

think i may actually go for a yellow and a powder blue (unsure on health factors though) or an orange shoulder.

how do you find you harlequin tusk std? ive heard to get australian versions .... so i was after a juvi austlian tusk.

Yellow tang would be fine

Powder blues are OK but are white spot magnets - also can be very nasty to fish added after them

The Tuskfish is great - I've had it for over 2 years and it has never caused me any problems - eats well and never gets ill - only downside is it is a bit of a wimp - gets bullied by my Pyramid butterfly

I would recomend them to anyone - they are also reef safe

i completly forgot about the kole tang! but then would it be compatable with a yellow, all this agreesion levels is tough :p spose il never know a 100% answer untill its tried!

harlequin tusk will probably be a definete then! such a beautiful fish.
