I was at the LFS today messing around and i saw some $400.00 fish! I can see salt water fish being expensive, but that much for fresh water fish? Turns out they were Arapaima. They are cute when they are small :crazy: I also saw some Albino Bicirs. they looked awsome. I almost bought one for my 40 but I figured it would get bigger than a sengal :unsure:

at my lfs they had a hawaiian dragon eel (SA) and it was $3000! they finally sold it after havving it for like 2 years

$400 for an arapaima is cheap compared to how much you'd have to pay to look after one adequately.

why on earth would any lfs stock arapriama?! I'm sure the minute minority of people who can keep one properly wouldn't mind waiting to have one ordered in for them. Out of 20,000 fishkeepers on this site I can't think of a single one with a big enough tank for arapriama

cfc :p

albinos are the same size as senegals because they are senegals :good:

the lfs i work at has 2 dragon eels, one hawaiian and one japanese. the owner said he wouldnt sell them even if somebody offered him 10k for both :blink: there is also a H. goliath(450) and a gulper cat(300)

I wish i has a swimming pool i could clean out and turn into a giant fish tank! I wonder if you could do that with a dough boy? :drool:

$400 is nothing on a fish i just sold my tigrinus cat yeaterday for $800 and the 2 x ray pups i bred for $700 each

$400 for an gigas is cheap compaired to the $40,000 you will need to spend on a tank for it

wish i had $100 to spend on a fish let alone $400.

you found homes for the ray pups T1KARMANN? thats great, i hope they will be happy and yours will breed again

as a rough guess i would say that fish in the picture is about 11 feet long, say it would get to 8 or 9 feet in captivity, i cant think of anyone who would be able to house a big enough tank, in captivity these would only be suited to public aquariums, or a massive tropical pond.

i dont think cfc would be able to keep one even if he sealed up his fish room and filled it with water :lol: somehow i dont think hes going to do that anyway.

edit: i agree that seeing an "expensive" fish in your lfs can be quite a sight, but it is by no means expensive to alot of people, as t1karmann was saying, there are fish being sold around the world for thousands of dollars, some even hundreds of thousands. a few hundred dollars is certainly no rare sight, there are probably quite a few people on this forum alone with fish of that value.

Motoro Rays cost around 1500$ here in aus.

Senegal Birchirs about 450$ at LFS to a low of around 270$ private.

TSN's= 550$

Alligator GArs=800$

Aussies have it tough when it comes to pricing.
