Ok..wth is going on with my swordies. They've been fine in their tank for a few weeks, the waters fine, they eat fine. But all day today they keep jumping straight out the water and going nuts inside swimming around super fast... One of the 4 didn't land back in the tank and my cat got to it first =\ The ohter 3 still won't calm down and keep trying to jump out... its been like 5 hours now. :-(

If you have a light on the tank turn it off or wrap a towel around the tank to darken it. If you don't have a lid on the tank find something to cover it so they can't jump out. Cardboard, another towel, anything that will keep them from jumping out. If they are in a panic they will continue to jump. Darkening the tank should help to calm them down.

What size tank are they in and are there any other fish in with them? Definately check your water stats. What sexes are they? Do they have any hiding places or plants? Have you added or changed anything at all in the last 24 hours?

Are these still in your 10 gallon tank? if so, that is probably the answer. They will be made nervous by being confined in too small a space. If there is a problem with the water stats, that will make them even more eager to escape. Swordtails need at least 20 gallon, bigger is better. They are active swimmers and need to move around. You will need a proper lid anyway as they are quite active fish who can easily end up on the wrong side of the tank glass. I would act on advice given elsewhere and try to exchange them for something smaller.

Funny, sounds like my problems.
I had 2 females die, both of them preggy.
One let loose some fry before she died, but they are dead now too.
I've had a bad expeirence with fish..
