4 gallon home

To put it simply, No

To begin with, chocolate gourami are a very, very delicate fish and require precise water conditions, very soft acidic water, gentle current and a four gallon tank does not give you enough water to play around...sort of like setting up a 5 gallon nano, lots of things can go wrong in small volumes of water.

Secondly, chocolate gourami are extremly shy fish and must be kept in groups of at least six, so to keep chocolate gourami properly your looking at a a 20 gallon tank, minimum.

Why not look at putting a betta and some cories in instead? or just the tetras :D

As already explained, no - they are sensitive and need to be kept in groups, prefferably in a species tank. The fish will die almost immediately afterwards.

If you are looking to get a gourami, consider a dwarf gourami and a couple of otos or a honey gourami or two and a platy or otos. Otherwise, a betta with a couple of otos or 4 small tetras are better options. I wouldn't encourage cories in that size tank though. They also need to be in groups (of at least 4) and are active little fish.
