4 Gallon Divided.

I'm going to be dividing a 4 gallon tank for some bettas. Just wondering how many parts do you think I should divide it into?

2 or 3. no more than 3. and make sure it's nice and planted. your bettas will love you.

I have one that's divided into 3 parts. Everybody's pretty happy, but if I had unlimited space I'd only put two in there.

I'm gonna divide it into two. Now all I need to do is get a heater for the tank. I'm not going to have a filter in it, don't want to stress the fish with a current and I don't have $$ to buy a new one. I'm wondering now, should I use a bare bottom tank or gravel?

I find no good reason to leave the bottom bare (except for breeding) unless you actually think that bare tank looks good. Make sure you get lots of plants too. and make sure that they are either silk or real. plastic plants have been known rip fins .
You really should have some type of filter at least. the azoo micro palm filter or whatever it's called is very small and doesn't make too much of a current either. If you are still leary then you should at least use an air stone or sponge filter. bettas need filtration just like every other fish.

That's why its good to check and make sure that the gravel is not sharp or there isn't extremly uneven gaps in the bottom. B)

Gravel rips fins too.

If you buy sharp jagged gravel, or glass. Usually gravel is small rounded pebbles, as long as you use natural

I've got the divider in it now. Just gotta wait for the silicone to completely dry. Now all I need to do is buy a heater for the tank. And perhaps a filter if I get the $$ and find a nice small one. Then I'd have to make a lid for the tank which would take about 5min and buy the bettas!

Any suggestions on a filter? I have an aquaclear mini but my current betta doesn't like the flow of that as it pushes him to the other side of the tank. Does anyone know is Big Als in Canada carries Azoo Palm filters? If so how much?

first, does your divider have holes in it so water can pass through?
if it doesn't you'll have to get two filters

Yes the divider has wholes in it.
