Hi I have got home tonight and found 1 black widow tetra dead and 3 of my neons have died.
I lost 1 tetra about 2 weeks ago and couldnt find it. Then 2 more have gone recently, again couldnt find them.
I have found my black widow tetra dead tonight.
All fish haven't been eating properly over the last week.

Also one of my peppered corys looks totally different to the other one. 1 looks perfectly fine, the other has gone very dark, has a big bulge under its mouth, eyes hav gone very big and the scales looks a bit odd and lumpy.

I have done a 75% water change and taken all the wood and plants out. I looked inside one of my fake plants and found rotten fish bodies in there.

Could this be causing all of my problems. I have tested the water, 5 nitrite 0 nitrate and 0 ammonia. ph is about 6.5

Please please someone help me with the peppered cory!!! and the feeding issues

thank you so much

You have a bad bacterial infection in your tank, are the scales sticking out and the eyes bulging out, dropsy and popeye are closely reltated due to the build up of fluids.

Eyes are bulging and scales sticking out yes.
The scales look a bit lumpy. Tried to get a pic but my camera isnt good enough sorry.

What do I do about bacterial infections!!!

The other cory is fine. The other neons are fine, the 3 black widow tetras look a bit pale.
Thanks

Can you issolate the ones with the sticking out scales as that the last stage of the desease organ failure no cure now, sorry,
You will need a bacterial med by interpet called anti internal baceria med.

Thank you so much. How long can I wait? All my local fish shops are closed till the morning. Are there any other products in case I cannot find the inter pet one?
Whats the best way to put my fish to sleep. I dont have clove oil
Thanks again.

A jug of cold water with some ice cubes added, put fish in container and tip the cold water over them, myxazin a waterlife product that a bacterial med as well.

Taken from the board.
Internal Bacteria

Symptoms

a. In some cases fish will darken in colour, become listless, stop feeding and die.

b. In other cases, severe symptons exist, ulcers, abdominal (dropsy) and eye swelling (pop eye), destruction of the central nervous system and then the fish dies.

Influencing Factors - Poor water quality will stress the fish and make them susceptible to infection. Also fin and body tissue damage will give the bacteria a site to start infecting.

My Experience -I recently lost one of my Mollies she was black so i did not notice her darken in colour, but she hid all the time and stopped eating, then died. At the point she died four other mollies and two platies started to hide and not eat. Also around this time started to notice that some of the fish had long stringy white feces (poo), it was 5 inches long in some cases.

I did a 30% water change and added Interpet No 9 for internal bacteria, plus two spoons of salt. Next day I added two more spoons of salt. On day four I put in the second dose required of Interpet No 9. Then nothing else and no water changes for the next 8 days. On the day four (after second dose) one of the mollies passed a lot of white gooey stuff and after that he started to come out at feeding time and occasionally take one or two nibbles.

All fish were fine at the end of the 8 days, out from hiding and eating again. Some did however still have a bit of stringy poo. I was therefore advised to do a 25% water change and clean up and redose the medication without salt. This is mainly as a precaution because the disease can come back if it is not "completely" cleared up.

Reason it happened - I did not know at the time buy my pump housing was blocked my pump hardly running at all. My water parameters did not show there was a problem but the pump must have been getting slower and slower over a period of time and therefore the oxygen was getting lower and lower. I believe this is what caused the bad water conditions that kicked in the infection for my fish.

What I have learnt - Fish commonly get ill because of poor water quality. I knew I had not introduced anything new, I did regular water changes and my tests were all good. How could it be poor water quality. It was because of the pump problem. I say don't give up looking there is always a reason, don't just treat the disease, find out why and learn from it.

GOOD LUCK

Thank so much for all that. Great help to me....just one question do you think this could have happened from a dead fish that has rotted?

Thanks

Yes if they have been pecking on it that how dropsy is passed on, sorry.

Ok cool. Its all gone now, completely clean tank. Just need some medicine to sort the bacterial infection out.

Can I feed my fish with the infection in the tank??

Give them some shelled peas, just keep them to what you normally feed them, good luck.

just normal peas from a bag?
and a few flakes?

thanks again!! this is the first problem i have had in 4 months, just a bit worried.

Frozen peas cook in boiling water for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
