On Tuesday this week I went on a 2 hour car journey to Pier Aquatics. It was SOOOO worth going!!!

Anyway at Pier I bought a fish called the four eyed fish. I have been told that they are really hard to get hold of as they often die when being imported. I know that I have never seen one until now. Anyway I have taken some picture but he is REALLY fast and it was hard to get any good ones. I was told that he behaves similar to what guppies do, but he grows to 10". I also think it is important that you know that the pictures really do not do any justice to the fish and how cool he looks.

I love analeps :good:
but you are aware that analeps analeps are brackish fish right?

I've seen those on TV, excellent find! :D

I agree they are similar to the 3 eyed fish off of the simpsons, and I have already posted on a different topic that I had no idea that they were brackish etc. so now I don't know what to do because he is gona die :X :-( :/ :sad: :no:

Actually I have seen them survive in FW for some time, so its not gunna die before you have the chance to set up a tank for it.

I suggest you buy yourself the cheapest 2/3ft tank you can find, then have it 2/3rds full of water with some rock piled up one side coming out of the water.

Ben

Yeah, if you cant get a tank, maybe even try a large plastic tupperware container, one of the big storage ones. Fill it up half way or so, make it brackish. Slowly raise the salinity over time, and use some media from your other tanks to clone it. If you bring the salinity up slowly, the bacteria should survive.

It does look SO cool but no it doesnt have 4 eyes. It has 2 really big eyes and half of each eye is in the water and half is out. Unfortunately last night it died though :-( I wasn't told that they are brackish and I think that is what killled it.

Well, I'm really sorry to hear that. From what you said earlier, most die during the import process, and maybe not enough people know they are brackish.

Yer I totally agree that I should get a refund but the shop is a 2 hour drive, so it probably costs my parents that in petrol :/

I'm very sorry that you lost your anablep and also angry that a shop that has a supposedly good reputation like pier aquatics would;

1) Would sell a schooling fish that needs to be kept in groups as a single specimin.
2) Sell a fish with specialised requirements for survival without warning
3) Sell a brackish fish without even advising that it requires salt in the water.

I have come to expect this sort of thing from the majority of smaller aquatics outlets but from a shop which was is highly recomended in the fish keeping press it is sorely disapointing.
