I know they do better alone but I ended up with 4 of them by my own stupidity. I have read in several places that they can be kept in groups but I can't seem to find a minimum tank size for more than one. So what is the minimum tank size for 4-5 rainbow sharks. I've asked this before on here and haven't really gotten a straight answer. Some people said a 55 some said a 200. So if you know or even have an opinion please post as I am going to have to do something with them soon and I don't want that to be selling them if I can avoid it.

thanks again wilder i believe you've given me that link before. Is the 55 gal requirement for more than one? If so then yippee but I wasn't real clear on it which is why I asked. Btw what us gallon is 200 L I'll check the calculators but if I can't find it a formula or answer would be appreciated. 52 gallons

It's about 40gals i think, if you only keep the sharks in it they should be fine.

won't be just sharks I'm afraid. 5 rainbow sharks is 30 in of fish so i should be able to fit in another 20 inches right? I know it's just a guidline so correct me if I'm wrong. 55 gall

Do they grow fast as you have to allow for growing room.

they being the rainbows or the other fish?

edit: I want a tank that will be correctly stocked. In other words all the fish should fit when fully grown.

I did the maths on my 29 gallon and it is still WAY overstocked (which is why i need a bigger tank) THe fish are still juveniles for the most part so it is just barely correctly stocked at the moment. But when all the fish reach full size I should have approximately 56" of fish. This is why I need a bigger tank. &$(@*#&@ LFS

EDIT: I have a few options. My mother wants a big tank so she could get a 55 and put in the rainbow sharks, along with a FEW other fish. Then my girlfriend who owns the 29 could keep her current stock as it would add up to 32" of fish, (slightly overstocked)

Edit: option 2 My girlfriend really loves her rfbs and she is thinking of getting a bigger tank. So would a 55 be big enough for her to keep her current stock or should she go for a 60-75?
