ok well its perfect time to discuss the filter one last step haha. so first off i decided to clean my rena xp3 a while ago so i got it all cleaned just rinsed off the filter in the water then got things going again started to do my water changed and realized my other filter wasnt running crazy.gif .. so smack smack got itgoing.. just took the water out and got some new water in it. so i have a feeling the motor is going out. with that being said my parents thought i needed a new filter.. so i was like oookk. sounds great. now my two options are pet co and petsmart.. US so which do you think i should get?

i think i will safely say i will either get the ecco 2236 or the rena xp3. which is a better filter?? im open to what you guys think i mean hey if i get the ecco my tank will look like a christmas tree with all the colors w00t.gif green tubing.. black. blue.. haha personally i wouldnt mind going with the xp3 but yeah. ideas.. and any other filter that comes to mind. thanks

by the way this filter will be going into my 55 gallon along with rena xp3 and a unimax pro 250 with the 3rd in i will have to take out the little penguin and stick another filter on my 20 gallon .

hey snake!
I'll make it short and sweet...

if you have a printer or access to one, go onto the petsmart.com website. find the *filter you like and print out that page, take it in to the store and ask to see the manager, 9 out of 10 stores will give you the online price so dont be afraid to ask!!!

* imo you need some biological filtering and a Emperor with biowheels will do just that...(black tubing and all ;) ) LOL
but what ever you do, remember that hint about printing out the prices. !! :good:

haha i know what you mean... the markup is absolutely CRAZY,. you would recommend biological filtration more than another internal??

ok so im pleasing the whole world here.. so petsmar was out of the eccos.. and i already had a bio filter on the tank so i went with another xp3. currently

2 XP3
Aqual Unimax Pro 250 Uv Canister
1 Penquin 100 bio

tank is crystal clear and fish are not bothered by the extra water movement : )

Hi Snake42490,

I think you made the right call to get Rene XP3. :good:

I don't know any other canister filter but Rene. I bought cheap for used XP1 and XP3 few month ago another hobbiest who move out the Country. Anyway, I hook XP1 up in 20 long and XP3 in 55G. And I find them really easy to use. Easy enough to open and squeeze and clean the filter and sponges when I do the water change.
I do this about every week since there are 100 small corys and 2 bristle nose in 55G. Not to mention, there is no charcole or ceramic filter media but nothing but filter pads and sponges.(eventually I would add some other filter media. After all there are 3 baskets to fill) And I also feed them heavy to grow out those young fish. So I do clean more often than most people would do. I should be able to move some Corys to store in a month when they reach 1~1 1/4".

Anyway, I just want to mention that I am pleased with Rene XP's. I don't know if there are any better canister filter out there since these are the first canister filter for me(probably there is but it maybe more expensive, perhaps).
But so far, I am pleased with Rene. And if you are too, I'll say stick with the filter you are happy with. Also it is easy to maintain if you have same filter or same kind from same company. Beside you may use as spare parts if you have more than one and one of them die or something.

This is my experience with Rene and my 2 cents.

Hello everyone ,you are discussing filters i just got an otto PF450G with a flow of 1800 litres per hour for my 350 litres aquarium , the filter has 3 compartments should i put ceramics at the bottom , coal in the middle and floss at the top when using the filter for chiclids .

Thanks

well.. in my tanks i have it set up. sponge then a smaller sponge. filter floss.. carbon. more filter floss. another 4 layered sponge each getting smaller and smaller. then i have bio balls. so ... if that gives you an idea.. ive tried a bit of everything. but i think this is whats working best for me. each filter i vary it up a bit.
