This is my 36 gallon aquarium it is stocked with

6 neon tetras
4 black tetras
4 sunburst wag platys
1 male dwarf gourami
1 bumblebee catfish

I know I need a backround and will hopefully get it soon.
I am not sure if i am understocked, overstocked, or just right
I am also hoping to get some driftwood soon.

well you currently have 16 fish in a 36 gallon tank, so I would guess that you could have some more fish, since the ones you have now don't grow very big...

erm I'm no expert on fish keeping, but you could get some:
corys
2 female dwarf gouramis
maybe a shoal of zebra danios
some more neons
some more black tetras

but like i said im no expert so wait for other peoples input aswell

You are just about near to being fully stocked, it works out at about 32" of fish that you have in there.
You could probably get away with adding a couple of Dwarf Gourami females and that should be about right. :good:

I think it's if there is any aggression from the male dwarf gourami, it could spread it out amongst the two females & not the other fish in your tank.

It's always best to keep at least 2 females to one male with Gouramies as they can sometimes pester the female and cause her stress. It's also best not having too many males in the tank as they can be really aggressive towards one another.

Don't want to start any arguments but I wouldn't class that as fully stocked at all, not for small tetras,
you should have 10 or more in a shoal to see them at their best. My opinion sorry if you don't agree.
Great artwork by the way

Thanks everyone I am currently looking for 2 females but all my lfs has are males but I have not had a problem yet except one platy has a messed up fin but I could have gotten him that way because all the others are fine and I don't see any aggression ever.

Neon Tetras can grow up to 2" and stocking is worked out by adult size, not current size.

I posted above that a platy's fin looked nipped at but just found out that it is a mail and his fin is pointed whish is strange because my lfs only sells the same sex to prevent breeding.

I think it looks good. I wouldn't worry with adding any females though unless you just want them. I've had a few dwarf g's and they never were aggressive until I added females. So that's just what ever you want to do; he doesn't need a female, is what I mean.
If you add anything I'd add 1-2 more black skirts just to give them a decent group, and then maybe add 3-4 cory cats (all the same kind, and preferably a smaller one like the panda cories) to help clean up.
I have never had a bumblebee catfish, but from what I've heard they can get a little testy, and a little big for a tank your size. You may want to consider returning him. But certainly wait on more input concerning him first.
Anyway, you've got a nice looking tank! :good:
