well i put a 40w flourescent over my 10g to help out the 15w with all the plants.

and guess what? it worked great, everything is already greening and in a few weeks im sure itll all be beautiful.

but now over the weekend i bought a 35g setup.

and under the hood there is 2 sockets to fit in 2 incadescent lights.

i checked: the blue colored one is 25w and the seethrough one is 15w.

40w over a 35g isnt nearly enough to get a decent planted tank going.

what do i do?

my dad said that i could just get 2 35w incadescent lights but on the hood it says 25watt maximum.

anyone have any suggestions? DIY's? buy the stronger incadescents? any other suggestions?

thx for future help:D

also if u want u can post pics of ur tanks to give me ideas of aquascaping.

i dont think incandescents are the way to go, look into compact fluorescents for lighting DIY style :)

incandescents burn hotter and eat up more electricity compared to fluorescents i think.. ;)

im not sure if your hood can handle it though... best to look into it....

Do what I did with my 33G, build your own hood.

Get some wood at Home Depot, a couple of 3 foot shoplights, and with a bit of DIY skill and some basic tools, you're all set!

I have 60W over my 33G from the shoplights, but I managed to add in another 25W bulb, to give me 85W.

If you are going to go that route, feel free to PM me to ask any questions you might have about the schematics...

ya... the hoods that come with tanks are usually pretty whimppppy.
Not holding enough or powerful enough lighting for anything but just fish...
I pulled my hood off n tossed it... then got a glass top, and threw 1 florcent strip light on the back half(40watt), and a Coralife compact hood on the front with (2)65 watts of 6700k lights. (btw... for those who remember i had 50/50 bulbs, the 6700k replacement bulbs came in yesterday!)

So im now running at 3.4 watts per gallon in my 50 gallon tank...

alright awesome, i had some screw in flourescents that are 14w each in my garage.

i dont think its enough but ill look into it some more and figure out a good lighting plan for my 35.
