okay at this point im near finalizing my decision for stocking my 35 gallon tank

just some specs to help out :

30 gallon tank (30w, 19h, 12d)
aquaclear 70 filter
150 watt heater
live plants (most likely)
sand for the bottom

fish i would like to stock:
1) 1 x Bristlenose Pleco
2) 2 x Dwarf Gourami
3) 2 x German Blue Ram
4) 5 x sunset platy
5) 2 x apple snail
6) 5 x molly or some type of tetra.

anyways ill likely be doing fish in cycling so ill probably start with the bristlenose pleco then apple snail, then platy and so on...

do these all seem compatible? sounds like a good stocking ? any advice?

thanks in advance

I used to have 2 dwarf gouramis in my tank along with mollies and platies and the gouramis were always fighting and chasing each other. I think having 2 rams and 2 gouramis might not be a good idea. Also my mollies were always chasing the platies and were kinda territorial!! Currently I have one male gold gourami and he is getting along fine with my rasboras, neons, cories, and ottos. Take a look at my signature for my tank setup and content.

I also have an inca snail (member of apple snail family?) and sometimes it nips at plants and destroy perfectly healthy ones. So whenever I add a plant bulb, I put him in a breeder net and wait for the plant to give some stems and leaves and then release the snail back into the tank, but you might not have this problem with other members of the apple family.

Good luck and have fun :D

thanks for the feedback, any other opinions fish forums peoples?

I was under the impression that GBRs also need a high temperature which the other fish you have listed may not appreciate, there are fish, like Cardinals, that will go with Rams quite nicely though. I think with the 5x Molly or Tetra I would go with a tetra of some kind, that's just my opinion though :)

from what ive read 80 degrees would be a healthy temp for them, and would also be compatible with the other fish.

and yeah im pretty sure ill just get tetra instead of molly , does anyone know if different "types" of tetra will school togeather ? (ex 2 bleading heart tetra + 2 neon + 2 other type of tetra)

YEARS ago, my dad had a shoal of neons with head and tail lights. All the head and tail light tetras died, except for one. He shoaled with the neons, but that could have just been that one fish. For my money though, a group of 6 neons (or any other shoaling fish) is nicer than a mismatch of 6 random tetras.

thanks for the advice guess ill have to pick 1 variation.

If you do German Blues you will have to do 1 male 1 female because in a 35 with 2 males will fight for territory the same goes for the Gourami

any tips on how to tell the two apart? do they look the same ?

do you think mixing german blue ram with dwarf gourami will be okay ?

also it would be extremely helpfull if you guys could post a list of your suggestions

for example mine is:

stock list

1) 1 x Bristlenose Pleco
2) 2 x Dwarf Gourami (1 male / 1 female)
3) 2 x German Blue Ram ( 1 male / 1 female )
4) 5 x sunset platy (all male or female)
5) 2 x apple snail
6) 5 x Tetra (all male or female)

Sorry haven't been on the forums for a little while and yes pink bellies are 100% female as for males that is another story I found looking at the dorsal fin and looking for a larger spike is the best way but that is just me

As for them going with gourami there might be a little fighting since territory is something both fish will look at but I know my GBR stay towards the bottom and I think gourami tend to stay to the top (mind you I have never had any) so there shouldn't be to much fighting

bump any help would be really appreciated
Just wanted to tell you about my tank setup which has worked out pretty well so far for the past 6 months:
30 USG tank
7 harlequin rasboras
7 neon tetras
1 gold gourami (male)
5 peppered cories
3 Otto cats
1 inca snail
Plants: cryptos, lilies, anubias
As I mentioned they all live pretty happy together. Rasboras are middle-top swimmers and are very active. Neons are middle-bottom swimmers. The gourami swims more toward top and cories on the bottom. Platties are peaceful too and also cardinals look nice.
Good luck.
