Purchased a 30 kilo bag of washed play sand for $5 and washed it again and placed into my tank. It is still somewhat cloudy but should be fine soon. Out of my fish in my profile which of them should be placed in my 32 gallon. (I placed one of my yoyo's into the tank as he has become insane since his mate died mysteriously :( ). My Neolamprogulus Hecqui will be added to the 32 gallon asap. Will cloudy sand water hurt the fish at all??

As long as it isn't super cloudy your fish should be fine. Keep the lights off to minimize stress until the water has become quite clean. I've had a few tetras die the first tme I put sand in y tank as I just plopped it in and clouded the tank for a day.

ack.. play sand compacts and really isn't great for fish tanks..

If you've ever heard about aneorobic pockets.. they happen a lot in play sand tanks.

well at least I think it's play sand it is very very fine sand. All my LFS do not carry any sand for tanks unless I went for $90 for crushed coral bag of sand...

I wouldn't use play sand in your tank. The granules are too small and compact too easily. I would suggest getting all-purpose sand, pool sand, paver sand or any other silica based sand. It has larger granules an a nice multi-color natural look to it. As for the cloudiness, it is just silt from the sand and is harmless to fish (it's basically like the dust and dirt that we breath everyday in our homes). It should clear up in a few days and can take up to a week to become fully clear.

I've heard of a lot of people using play sand, they get it because it's cheaper.
You could always get some malaysian trumpet snails, they'll bury themselves in the sand which helps prevent the gas pockets building up. Also, how deep did you make the sand?
