Well it sure is a pretty fish but the hell if I'd spend that much money on something they're not willing to guarantee.. specially with how much the price is at.
I mean you don't even know if that is the fish eggs you'll be getting.. could be anything ya know?

You would have to be a complete mug to bid on them. And if there so rare why dont the people with the eggs hatch them and then ship them as people will pay more for fish they can see rather than eggs. I sense a con somewhere here.

I would not even pay £30, even if someone knocked on my door with them. 300 through the post

I agree.......... :fish: y

Pretty fish. But wouldn't be so keen on that. That could just be some random fish they have a picture of, and who knows what eggs your getting. Don't like that deal one bit.

Nothobranchius sp,
A breed of african annual Killifish, looks like a new species being introduced and some people are quite desperate to obtain them for his/her collection. (they simply have to have it at any cost)
Rest assured the aquarists who are bidding on this will know their stuff. (I know some of those guys from their handles) The aim is to hatch the eggs to obtain stock fish and then breed them to recoup some of their initial outlay.
The Sudan at the moment is a no go area for anybody never mind a fish collecting expedition, the seller will get his money but I expect them to go for a hell of a lot more.

Just a little update on the above thread,
The collectors were arrested and spent time in Sudaneese police station. they were moved from room to room and asked many questions over and over again. In the end they were pronounced as spies and expelled from Western Kordofan. (Sudan state).

The fish are very very difficult to breed and rear.
So given that they virtually took their life in their hands to collect these fish then $300+ seems like peanuts.
Just thought I'd share a little piece of background info.

thats insane! over fish!

This is sometimes the norm. Fish collectors can put themselves in compromising positions in these underdeveloped countries.
Many years ago some friends of mine from Manchester went on an anabantid collection expedition and nearly lost their lives by natives, only lots of money and a persuasive taxi driver/guide saved them.

I've had friends shot at and been arrested in Mexico collecting fish, and guess what I'm going there soon to do the same, but hopefully with no shooting or arrests.

For rare fish some people will pay a lot of money, but for most fish it's ony a few quid price. Some rare livebearers get very little money (£3-15 a pair) for something thats very rare and these people spend £1,000's to collect them, So it;s done for the passion NOT for money.

So it;s done for the passion NOT for money
Thats exactly right.
Of course there's also the added bonus of a new find and it subsequently being named after you.

PS. HS....What are you going to Mexico in search of, anything specific. Do you need permits.

Will being going to the Xiphophorus Gene centre, fishark research Lab, and living rough for 12 days, looking for high land xiphophorus other livebearers.

And due to my lack of space I'm going more to see where the fish come from and see what i can find.
