Hmm. im thinking of going planted. Ive got a 25 watt bulb i believe which leaves me with 0.8333333 WPG. hopfeully i can get another bulb to get it up. The substrate would be play sand and it should be pretty well filtrated and all so should be ok. Only thinking of lightly stocking the tank so should be fine :)

Bret

ill post when its all ready

What kind of plants could i keep with 0.83333 WPG? as it turns out i cant get another light atm :)

Bret

Probably not very much Im afraid, anubais, java fern and java moss might do ok, some crypts and sword do ok in low light but 0.83WPG is very low. Having said that, those plants tend to be quite cheap so you could give them a go and see what happens?

If you're strapped for cash can I suggest one of the plant collections from Greenline? They are very cheap and the plants are normally good quality. Think you can get around 50plants for 9quid, that way you can try lots of plants to see which ones will grow but it doesnt cost the earth :)

hmm.. whats the average price of a new ballast and bulb? i want a cheap one but a reliable one :) just to boost my lighting as much as poss :)

Bret

oh and whats the WPg before yo uneed to add CO2

Check out aquatics-online for different controllers. Don't forget you'll also need a reflector, which are also available from that site.

2WPG is generally considered the point at which you need to add CO2, but this is a guide. I wouldn't try getting 1.9WPG and hoping you'll not need the CO2!

So what would you think the best wattage is for a 30 gallon tank with a wide-ish range of plants available :)

Bret

Aim for 1.5ish, that way you dont have to get involved in EI and the extra effort that requires, but you should still be able to growth a few plants. Thats of course unless you want to do EI?
