30 Drops And Counting...

I guess I did my math wrong. I thought that my 10 qt bucket filled 30 times would fill up the 75 gallon tank. And one drop of ammonia in the bucket gave me 4ppm of ammonia.... so I thought 30 drops = 4ppm in the 75 gallon tank.

I've added 30 drops. The test is still yellow. Do I go drop by drop now til I get where I want it? Or just add a couple and then test. Silly question, I know... I swear I had my math right though.

No, your math was correct, i just checked it. Other things tht can be off - did you mix the water well after adding the ammonia before testing it? the measurement of 10 quarts means it is full to the very top, how full was the bucket when you tested it?

If it is still green, i'd recomend atleast double what you already have.

haha oops no i didn't mix it.... i figured the airstone and filters would. i put the drops in, wait a minute or so and go test it. the bucket was full- the tank isn't- it's about 2" shy of being full- but i still have loads of gravel to add PLUS decorations. I thought I should leave it like it is rather than filling it then having to empty it once the stuff gets here.

I'm now at 40 drops and 0.25ppm. I'm gettin' there. I'll mix it and test again- what do I mix it with though?

the filter will be mixing it, i was tlaking about it getting mixed in the bucket.

Since you are at 40 drops, 160 will get you to 1 ppm, and 640 will get you to 4 ppm. Any idea how many ml or teaspoons you have added so far?

about 3/4tsp. I'm at 60 drops. 50 gave me .50ppm

no i didn't mix the bucket. didn't think about it... other than sloshing the tupperware thing around in it getting the water out.

I seem to remember I needed at least 20 drops for my 19 gallon, so 60 drops probably isn't that outrageous for a 75 gallons. Once you've got the initial number sorted you can always use a calculator web site to convert it into ml, to speed the procedure up next time.

edit: sorry, just read the last few posts through again, forget what I said, seems you're going to need more drops.
