Hi All,
Just thought  i'd provide a quick update of how my first foray into tropical fishkeeping is going!

Tank - Fluval Roma 90
Age - 3 months
Filter - Fluval U2
Temp - 26 deg average

Occupants - 6 danio,1bristlenose pleco,2 peppered cory,3 scissortails

Everything seems to be ok,bought an API test kit this week.

Results as follows:-

PH 7.4
HIGHER PH 7.8
AMMONIA 0 ppm
NITRITE 0 ppm
NITRATE 10 ppm

Does that seem ok?

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks

Ian

Hi. You don't need to carry out both of the PH tests. There are two different ones depending on the water you have. I'd be inclined to believe that your PH is around 7.8 because I think the lower level PH test only goes up to 7.4 so it won't be able to measure any higher.

The figures seem fine for a cycled tank. How long have the fish been in it?

The 6 danios went in after a month, the remainders about 2/3 weeks after that.
I'm hoping i can add more corys & scissortails this week as i believe they need to be in groups of at least 5/6?

As far as I can see the fish you have and want should be fine together. I'm not that knowledgeable on the Roma tanks so don't know how many fish you can have but as a rule of thumb I've pretty much always stuck to 1 inch of fish to 12 square inches of surface area of my tanks,  (2.5cm of fish to 30cm square) remembering to take into account the adult size of the fish.

I would say add more corys. I would get af least 4 more peppered. They tend to group together best with thier own variety.
Would say yes on the scissors as well. Although danios prefer a long tank.
What kind of substrate do you have?
