right i have 3 guppys all giving birth at the moment ahhhhhhhhhh 21 babies and counting

the real issue is my two poorly platys they both look fine at first then they go under the light and you can see that they have white mould type stuff all over them what is this and what do i do i have an anti fungus treatment will this work

can i treat them in the tank or do they have to be removed :(

24 babies wooooo hoo :hyper:

you need to treat them for fungus, however there's a very strong chance that treating the tank will kill off your babies, i doubt if they are strong enough to withstand the meds (which are generally aimed at adult fish, much as if you gave a baby adult strength paracetamol it could do them damage). You need to isolate the babies anyway though or the parents will probably eat them, so you need to set up another tank asap and put the babies in it, then treat the main tank with fungus treatment.

you also need to look into the cause of fungus, usually it comes on because of stress or poor conditions, can you give us some more details on your tank so we can check that there's not a more serious issue to resolve. Please tell us tank size, water stats, occupants etc

thanks for this
babys are going to be moved as soon as there all born there in a breeding trap at the moment

its my mother in laws tank mine is still cycling

20 gallon

4 platys
8 neon tetra
5 guppys
4 golden barbs
4 harlequins

no stats as she takes some water to pets at home once a week to have it checked last time it was done they said she had really good water

ok, it's good that the babies are being moved once they're born, it's safe to hold off on treatment until they're done, depending on how bad the fungus is you may want to wait a couple of hrs or a day after the birth is over, the mothers are bound to be a bit stressed and could be knocked out by the meds. have to make a judgement call when you look at them and how the mothers are doing after they've given birth.

the tank's a bit overstocked which could be causing the problems, it's not drastically bad but it is a bit full. If you have a water test kit then take it round and test the water and let us know the stats, generally speakming if you see an illness break out or have a death the first port of call is to check the water. A lot can happen to it even in a week without you knowing. Try and advise your MIL to get her own test kit though, it'll be cheaper and more effective in the long run to getting PAH to test it, also if you have the kit on hand then if you have a death over Xmas when nowehere is open or something like that then you can suss out the problem yourself.
