i was thinking of turning it into a "crabitat" with a couple of red clawed crabs.

but i`m also open to other ideas. i was also thinking maybe a siamiese fighter, or could you go heavily planted with such a small tank?

the crabitat is quite interesting, but i`m also tempted by a nano planted tank.

My 4 Gallon (at my dad's house), which I own, look after etc. Is very very very havily planted and thriving fantastically well!! It's home to John (Simease Fighter), Tom and Larry (Neon's) - All three of these fish are very old and Tom and Larry came from one of my main tanks. (I know they should be in shoal's of 6, but these two are old and have lived together all their lives and seem perfectly happy together). Overall, the tank is very good!

i`m definately swung with the planted dea, can you get mini t5`s or something similar for smaller tanks?

are they just a small lamp (bulb) that kicks out more power?

or do i need a whole new lighing rig?

its a tinly little fluro bulb right now, i know it won`t be enough for the plants, however if i can get these, power compact`s i can make a lid to fit, either fab one out of stainless steel or mdf, can any one link me to the power compact things please?

I wouldn't recommend a crabitat, I was keen on aquatic crabs at one point, and read they need about 1' of scuttle room per each, and unless your 3g is of unusually clever dementions, I doubt you have it. If you're really attached to the crab idea, I'd read up on them a great deal more and decide for yourself if a single crab would be happy in your tank, let alone more than one.

A planted tank would be a cool challenge, I know I enjoy planting my 5gs... sort of like bonsai. A betta would definately dig living there.

yup plant it and get a really pretty betta in there :D

be good practice for you doing planted tanks before you start on the 4 footer..... and as it's eventually gonna go in my house I should get the final say what it looks like :p
