I would like something to keep my lone male betta company in hi 5 gallon rectangular tank. Would a little shoal of like 3 corries not work cause the tanks too small or would they be alright? Maby like Corydoras Panda since they grow only like 2 inches?

I would try something like shrimp. The betta may or may not like company, depending on his personality. I think a few cheap ghost shrimp would be a good test. If they pass, then try something else like a few otos or a couple of adfs.

I'm not worried about him attacking the corries, I'm just worried about the tank size with 3 corries. :/

c.pygmaeus (sp), c.habrosus, c.hastatus (please check spellings because this is from memory) are all ones that get to 1 inch and will be good.
Qays-do pandas really only get to 1.5inch? i always thought/heard that they got bigger and were more like the 'normal' corydoras'. :S

I have had Bettas with all different kind of fish, and it seems that the only fish they had problems with are ones with flowing fins... and obviously other male Bettas

Is the tank filtered and how often do you do water changes? Cories in general are very sensitive to water quality, although fish like panda cories may fit they may not be suited to the tank at all. What sort of subtrate do you have in there?
Male bettas are generally solitary fish, if you are adding fish purely to keep him company, he'd much appreciate something else like some new tank decor instead of fish like cories or oto's who really do not have any sense of terotory or other fish's personal space.
