Recently bought my 2nd tank (trigon 350) Had it set-up for just over 3 months now, its only stocked with some young from my 225G so a lot of work to be done yet. Still debatable about having a 3D rock background, it will hide the pipework a little better and once it has algae growth will blend nicely with the rockwork. So any opinions or advice on how the tank looks or how you'd have the tank if it was your own?

Let me know what you guys think :good:

I like that. Quite different from your 'standard' African cichlid tank. I think the black sand is a nice touch.

Not sure about a 3D background. Think you might struggle to find one that blends nicely with the current rocks and sand. I'd be tempted to just have it black and make the fish colours pop that little bit more.

Thanks for the comments.

Yeah im aiming for a more natural looking set-up, thats what i was thinking ZoddyZod could be hard to find the right background but if its similar it could look ok once it gets the green algae covering. Do you guys think it looks ok with the rocks and everything? Need some greyish coloured sand to mix to try and get that natural looking sand like the bottom of the lake, do like the black but i slight mix of grey should look just as nice. Personally even though the tank is no where near stocked or finished think it looks better than my 225G. Watcha think

what about stacking the rocks to near the water level at the rear center? You've got quite a high stack in the main tank, so that's what I mean.

although I can see your heater and filter pipes positioned there so might be tricky.

Could try that yeah, that's why i was thinking of the 3D background to hide the pipework and heater but stacking the rocks in the right way could also hide them hmm may have to give this a go mate. Problem is the new rocks i add wont have algae on them nooo!! lol :(

Well i got some more rocks sorted and plan on doing them tomorrow see how it goes. If i get in a coffufle and dont like how it looks its staying how it is and getting stocked lol cheers for the advice mate.

looks good mate , how about making your own 3d background using polystyrene? that way you could sculpt/colour it exactly as you want it .

Good Idea Mark, im going to leave the new rocks in there for a while and see what they look like as the algae grows if im not too keen then the homemade background could be a good idea. Just glad i finally have some decent algae on the rocks, still got your tank Mark?
