Hello, my 40 tank is in its second week of the cycle. I have 6 rosy red barbs and 2 bumbblee catfish in there, and am wondering what i should do.
My readings are as follows :
ph 7.4
ammonia .25ppm
nitrite 5.0 ppm
nitrate 5.0 ppm

Thanks, guys

Add salt to detoxify the nitrite as well as water changes.  "Nitrite can be blocked from harming fish using chloride. Chloride is 2/3 of plain old table salt, so using a small amount of salt is all it takes to help with nitrite. The desired concentration of chloride is 10 times the concentration of nitrite."

Check your nitrite concentrate after a water change (I don't know exactly what to recommend, let's say 50% water change, bringing your nitrite concentration down to 2.5ppm). so add enough plain old table salt to add 25ppm of chloride. I'm not a chemist so hopefully someone will come along and give you a desired dose.
