Ok, I'm planning on getting another tank, a 29 or 30 gallon next week. Preferably a 30 gallon, as it's longer. I'm looking for unique fish to stock it with. I'm not concerned with color as much as I am just an awesome unique, cool fish, tank. It's going to be sand substrate, and planted. Not sure what plants yet, but something easy to maintain.

Sofar I want:
1 German Blue Ram PAIR
2 or 3 Dojo Loaches

So I'm looking for suggestions. The Blue Rams are there...becuase they are just amazing fish IMO. The loaches..becuase they're just awesome. Very unique or weird even. Burrying themselves in the sand, detcting pressure changes, etc. Anything else a little out of the realm of just more danios or neons? I'd think maybe some cories...but that would be a tank of bottom dwellers.

I know absolutly nothing about rams... I believe they are semi-aggressive? Since all I know about are really peaceful fish, I wont have many suggestions ^___^ Defenitly go with 3 Dojos. The more there are, the more active they are. They even hunt in packs sometimes!

If the Rams are not as aggressive as I think they are, I personally really like BLoodFin tetras. They are so vibrant and active, and not at all nippy. But I don't think they are compatible with those rams, so I guess that is out of the question ^_^

After reading a little on the cichlid section, i think the german rams need 10 gallons each, so with a pair you have 20gallons taken already. And i doubt very much that the dojo's would appreciate 3gallons each let alone adding anymore fish. Id reccomend saving a little longer and getting the 55? gallon you were talking about. But i suppose this depends how big those tiger barbs are :S

Rams are really only aggressive toward other rams. They're pretty peaceful toward other community fish.

Minimum tank size for a pair is 20 gallons, but that doesn't mean that 20 gallons is used up.

A good off the cuff 20 gallon tank stock would be:

2 Blue Rams
5 Neon Tetra
5 Glo-Lite Tetra

And maybe a cleaner shrimp.

Since Dojos are bottom dwellers and Rams aren't (I don't think), they technically each have their own 30 gallons, in a way, since their territories don't really cross.

Another thing you have to consider though is that, 20 gallons for your for the pair of rams. 10 gallons isnt going to be enough for 3 dojo loaches and a shoal of tiger barbs because they cant stay in your 10 gall. My mate has rams and they actualyl spend most their time in the middle lower parts of his tank.

I'm starting to think 3 dojo loaches (still possibly 2), my 5 TB's, and then other. I might do 1 german blue ram in my 10G along with some neons or such.

Or...I might just bite the bullet and save for the 55 gallon. It will only take me one more paycheck to afford it. seriously I could afford the 55 G with this paycheck...but I'd like to leave some extra money...although spending like $400 on fish would be fun...reality would set in when I need money for my credit card bill lol.

If you're already contemplating a 55 and actually have the space for one - save up and buy that instead. Otherwise you'll just kick yourself in a couple of months.

I've never ever had any aggression in keeping Golden Rams but make sure you have the right type of water quality they require.
