So I'm planning on getting the Juwel Rio 240.
http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/juwel/juwel-rio-aquariums/juwel-rio-240-aquarium-and-cabinet-beech.html

I am initially thinking discus but I saw a malawi tank today which was full of life and colour. I loved it.

Can you keep malawi cihclids in the Juwel Rio 240? Is it big enough?
(240L - 121 x 41 x 55 cm)

If so how many could I keep in there?

Will definitely have a massive rock wall with caves/holes.

Thanks

15 = Lightly Stocked
20 = Average Stocked
25 = Densely Stocked

also depending on filtration has i would add a external to work inline with the juwel internal or remove the internal and run 2 external's

Haha I wish I could have that but that is more expensive. I was thinking 1 Tetratec Ex1200 (like putting 2 into 1) to over filtrate for 20 cichlids?

2 externals would be better, depends on what species you choose to. You knoe of any species that you would like to keep?

if you are thinking of buying a new juwel tank the juwel internal filters sell well on ebay it would be a bio-flow 6.0 with a 1000l/h powerhead and the price that sells for would buy you a new tetratec/aps external filter :)

Do you mean some species are more "messy" than others?

I like:
-Electric Blue Johanni
-Eastern Blue Johanni?
(Both Males and Females but they look the same?)
-Yellow Labs
-Yellow Nape Hap
A red one of some sort like peacock?

-Calvus
-Frotosa
-Duboisi

I had all these fish and a jewel cichlid but never the nape. But I get a feeling you cant mix the rivers as well as the continent?

Is there no way to get around 2? Could I not get 1 good one? The Tetra EX1200 is for 200-500L. I could possibly go up to 2400 but would obviously prefer not to for money reasons. Cheers!

I run two ex1200 on my 260 litre. I only had one running for 4 months though but the fish were still about 1-2 inches and under stocked.

Hi i run 2 externals xe1200 and a prime 30
Also run 2 on my rio 180

Okay so cichlids are messy fish :p

It seems two EX1200 is equal to one EX2400. but maybe the media amount is different?
I'd prefer just to get one because of space and plugs. :)
I also hear it may be difficult to fit 1 EX1200 piping and things in the tank.
Spurry, did you have to cut anything to get two filters in?

Anyway, what is the recommended amount for 1 type of species and males and females? I hear they are better in groups of 4?

I run two Ex1200s in my Vision 260 - the piping is very neat and they fit perfectly in the grooves in the back of the tank without cutting anything. The EX1200s also fit in the cabinet - the EX2400 is huge and doubt it would fit in at all so it wouldnt save space as would be outside of the cabinet! Also the Ex1200s are quiet - my LFS has a 2400 running on a tank and the thing makes a horrible sound!!

Not the lid, the gap at the back top near the lid. Back wall basically. I had a look in my LFS and it doesn't look very big. Does this mean the piping isn't particularly big?
Also, I was planning on putting it outside the cabinet anyway so that doesn't concern me. But the noise probably will so will probably go with 2. May just try out 1 but this is now costing me more than the discus plan :lol:

Ah well, I'll just go with 2 Ex1200's. If so many of you do successfully, can't really argue with that. :good:

As I said I've never cut any part down
The lid sits flush on my 270lts but on my 180 the lid
Is up abit, I can live with that more than I could cutting it

Alright well that's good enough for me. Thanks for letting me know. :)
