24/7 Water Change...

Does anyone here run this kind of setup?

I've seen it banded around before, mainly in the larger freshwater tanks and discus.

From what I can see, it's just a HMA filter into tank, and drain out. And HMA units last a lot longer than I thought they would.


What are the pitfalls to this?

So far all I can see is...
-Temperature Control (usually colder, cost slightly more to heat overall depending on turnover)
-Slightly higher pH from the carbon

The main problem I can see is that eventually, something will break.
When that something does break, you've got dead fish as there's no other filtration.

You're assuming I meant running sans filtration. The thought already entered my mind, but if the water stopped out - buggered, or constant low levels of ammonia that isn't being dealt with fast enough. Because of this - I didn't ask the question regarding "sans filtration" as I already took it as unsuitable.

Then again - your filtration system could break And the way I see it, a simple filter with water in out, has less to break as there is no pump involved.




Or have I missed something... like, not enough "waste" for filtration bacteria?
