Hi guys
I'm so gutted and cross with myself.
Last night i put a new eheim shepherds crook on my external last night as the old one got damaged , well while doing the work i some how managed to move the dial on the hydor external heater to max
, i usually check on the tank before i leave for work in the morning but was running late so didn't get a chance too.
When i got in from work i found all 10 neon's dead , all 10 harlequins and 2 of my albino Cory's dead , i was thinking what the hell has done this then i touched the tank to find it very hot, the temp was up at 33c
, i know it was an accident but i feel i should have thought to check the heater as i was working in the area it was located.
My last albino Cory ( one of my first fish) was at the back of the tank upside down breathing very fast, i quickly got him out and into a big jug, i got an ice pack from the freezer and put it in to drop the temp, the temp went down to 25c in about 30 mins, once the temp had went down a bit he started breathing better and righted himself to lie on his stomach, i did a 50% water change on the big tank with cool water which brought the temp down to 26c , i did this over about 45min so it wasnt a sudden temp drop for the fish (i hope), i put the Cory back in and he's on the bottom not doing much, i hope to god he makes it..
what I'm surprised at is my sole panda Cory was unaffected , everything iv read says there one of the Cory's that prefer cooler water ..
out of all the fish i had im still left with my 2 rams , 5 dwarf pencil fish, 1 gold gourami (aka sunny), 2 leopards Cory's, 1 panda Cory, 4 amano shrimp (had a feast on the dead fish) 9 adult endlers and god knows how many endler fry (didnt realise endlers were so hardy), 3 ottos and 1 silver tipped tetra.
please please take warning from this guys and check your heater settings if you have been working near it, iv learned my leason the hard way and i hope this may save someones fish that might have read this
Cheers for reading this
A very gutted Kev
