Hi guys

I'm so gutted and cross with myself.

Last night i put a new eheim shepherds crook on my external last night as the old one got damaged , well while doing the work i some how managed to move the dial on the hydor external heater to max  , i usually check on the tank before i leave for work in the morning but was running late so didn't get a chance too.

When i got in from work i found all 10 neon's dead , all 10 harlequins and 2 of my albino Cory's dead , i was thinking what the hell has done this then i touched the tank to find it very hot, the temp was up at 33c  , i know it was an accident but i feel i should have thought to check the heater as i was working in the area it was located.

My last albino Cory ( one of my first fish) was at the back of the tank upside down breathing very fast, i quickly got him out and into a big jug, i got an ice pack from the freezer and put it in to drop the temp, the temp went down to 25c in about 30 mins, once the temp had went down a bit he started breathing better and righted himself to lie on his stomach, i did a 50% water change on the big tank with cool water which brought the temp down to 26c , i did this over about 45min so it wasnt a sudden temp drop for the fish (i hope), i put the Cory back in and he's on the bottom not doing much, i hope to god he makes it..

what I'm surprised at is my sole panda Cory was unaffected , everything iv read says there one of the Cory's that prefer cooler water ..

out of all the fish i had im still left with my 2 rams , 5 dwarf pencil fish, 1 gold gourami (aka sunny), 2 leopards Cory's, 1 panda Cory, 4 amano shrimp (had a feast on the dead fish) 9 adult endlers and god knows how many endler fry (didnt realise endlers were so hardy), 3 ottos and 1 silver tipped tetra.

please please take warning from this guys and check your heater settings if you have been working near it, iv learned my leason the hard way and i hope this may save someones fish that might have read this

Cheers for reading this

A very gutted Kev :-(

:rip: all of those little fishies.

How devistating for you.

Here are some :flowers: to cheer you up.

Sorry for your loss.
I really wouldn't recommend dropping the temp so quickly, even if its really high, its better to drop it by a maximum of 2-3 degree's a day rather than dropping it like 8 degree's in one big go as thats a great deal of shock for the fish to take in (a bit like being taken from the sahara desert and being dropped in the arctic in one go).

Sorry for your losses R.I.P.
Keep a look out for whitespot, columnaris, and swim bladder.

thanks for the kind words guys

The fish that are left look to be unfazed buy the ordeal so with a little luck they will all pull through fine .

Wilder ,with the temp being so high at 33 wouldnt that have killed anty whitespot parastites in the tank ???? never had whitespot before..

I'll be keeping a good eye on them

Cheers

Kev

Aww that sucks :( I had a tetra go last week :(But that's nothing compared to 20 fish!

Sorry for your loss. The fish you lost are somewhat fragile apart from the Cories so the surviving fish are fighters.

sorry for your loss

And ya id be watching for the whitespot too. I think that amount of stress could weaken a fishes immune system allowing illnesses to get a better hold of your fish... What im saying is they'll be at a higher risk for these illnesses. good luck

Sorry to hear about ur losses. All those surviving fish have gone thru alot. Thats one strong panda u have being able to cope with 33c.

Sorry to hear of your loss. If it makes you feel any better I've had a heater stick on, took out several panda corys I was growing out, and planning on breeding, along with a bristlenose. The angels survived 98F. I think if you keep fish for any amount of time something like this is bound to happen.

Oh my goodness... I'm so sorry for your loss :( I can't even imagine what you've gotta be feeling right now *HUGS*
