I have a GSP, and he's been at fresh water levels at the store, and now here for about 2 weeks so I can get him acclimated... Now, I think its time to start adding salt.

I was just wondering, whats a good time frame to try and raise the tank upto proper salt levels? shoulkd it take more than a day? Or just add a little every few hours?

The puffer itself couldn't care less. You could take a juvenile and acclimate it to SG 1.010 within an hour using the drip method. The issue is the filter, specifically the bacteria. So go slowly, raising the salinity with each water change. If it's in freshwater now, you only need to go to SG 1.005 within the first couple of months, and say SG 1.010 at the end of 6-12 months. That gives you ample time to make small changes in salinity without stressing the bacteria.

Cheers, Neale

Just as a side note, im assuming you are aware that a 20Litre tank is no where near large enough for a Green Spotted Puffer. You will need something around 30-40 Gallons for him as they are rather large and active fish.

Sorry, its not a 20 liter, Its a 20 Long, its only 1 GSP, I plan on maybe trying out a few bumblebee gobies as a friend has them in freshwater, and no plans for em.

Would they all be okay in a 20 Long?

Also, picked up a piece of mopani wood from Petsmart and tossed it in, how does the tannins affect brackish water?

One more thing, will the puffer eat some frozen squid?

A few cellphone pics of him in the 20 Gallon Long...

just defrost it first. Also you might want to add a lot more plants to that tank (fake ones) so that the puffer has something to explore.
