This is my tank. It would be nice to tear it down and replace it with a 200g marine reef tank, with corals and anemones and everything. I can't do that though, so freshwater is ok for now. Actually, this tank isn't so bad. Sometimes I just stare at it for a while, not that there's much to look at because basically there's all algae eaters in there atm. I stare at the algae and wonder why it insists on torturing me... The plants are growing ok. I've always liked plants and how green they were. Kindof wierd that it's the one color I can't seem to get to stay in my tank, but I guess that's just the way things are, right? Anyway, it probably sounds like I'm rambling or something, it is kindof late so without further adieu, I give you:

This is the ram doing what he does best, trying to swim out of the tank like the glass insn't there.

Hope you enjoyed. I still have a few more pictures to show if photobucket hasn't banned me for using too much bandwidth.

no offense or anything, but the ram's stomach looks sunken in? usually a sign of not getting enough food or an internal parasite....does he always look like that?

Very nice. Reminds me of autumn with the shades of green running into red. Your Crypts look magnificent. Great photography too.

I don't see much algae - you sound like me, I am also tortured by the slightest amount. As you know I have suffered much recently!

I've had the crypts for six months now. They were originally all green but when I switched to 3.5wpg they started turning the color you see now. :)

The co2 is just 2 2L soda bottles and an airstone atm. I plan on getting a bubble ladder soon. Lighting is one 55w All-Glass pc (9800K) and a 15w All-Glass flouro (6700K). The 9800K is alright for now, although it's going to get replaced with a 6700K soon. The lights rest on a home-made plexiglass hood.

Substrate is pure eco-complete except for the sand terrace which was collected from a local river delta. I didn't go for the purpose of collecting sand, usually I practice "take only pictures leave only footprints" dogma. So in return for the sand, I picked up some trash along another beach to make up for it, but I'd do that anyway so I don't know. I'm thinking of removing the sand terrace I have going right now. It looked good before but I think it makes the 'scape look clunky, taking up space that I could use to plant some more glossostigma. But I like the sand, so I guess it could stay for now.

I just fed him alot of brine shrimp before I took the picture so he would get his colors showing well. I was suprised at how the picture rendered neon spots. I didn't know that each scale was a bluish color but you only see that only at a certain angle, though. I make sure that they're fed enough, but without overfeeding. When I brought him home from the LFS he was the only one in the tank and he's since looking alot better. Maybe he's got a parasite, maybe not. If he does is there anything I can do about that, in terms of medication or something?

-- I dose Flourish, KNO3 and KSO4 that I got from Greg Watson about twice a week, once after wc and again on the 3rd or 4th day. I planned on dosing per Estimative Index, but I've been anxious about loading the tank full of ferts when my CO2 levels are at ~15ppm. I'll probably start a dosage of alternating macros and micros everyday once I get that bubble ladder to help with diffusion. I can't stop thinking about that ram either. I'm going to up the feeding schedule to twice a day now and see if he gets any better.

yea, i absolutely love the turquoise and purple coloring when the light hits blue rams right....if it IS a parasite he will always look like his stomach is sunken in like that and if you see him poo it may be white and stringy or just not look right....they DO sell medicated food, but just keep an eye on him and if he is eating well, showing those nice colors, and continues to look the same (not getting slim, for instance), i wouldn't bother with medicated food..

didn't want to get you worried because he looks great, just wanted to bring it to your attention that there COULD be a problem you should just watch out for and act promptly on if you notice any change for the worse...but like i said he looks extremly healthy, i was just concerned with the slight sink in his stomach - who knows, it could just be naturally how that ram looks - every fish is different just like us humans :D
