My last fish died in my 20h.
I am all confused!
I do not know wheather to make it an agressive tank or a community tank.
I am leaning towards a community tank because I like rams.
If I have a community tank I would like:
-neon tetras
-long fin zebra danio
-cory probably ablino BUT I want a dwarf one
-gold rams
-blue rams
-dwarft grammie
I do not know what kind of fish I like and I like diffferent ones so PLEASE send PICTURES:kewlpics:
I don not know weather to add sand or buy the same gravel.
The only thing is it looks good with the gravel I gave and if I were to change to san I would have to buy new ortuments because the ones I have would not be good with sand.
I am probely leaning towards the gravel.
I am also confused because the tank is a 20 high and I would need to get some top dewelling fish I also want really active fish.
I would like to have a nice tank so Please reply with anwsers to my problems.
What sould I do:
-aggresive or nonagressive
-sand or gravel
-how many of what kind of fish should I add
-what kind of different unique fish could I add

Well my current favourite fish are Harlequins: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/harlquin.htm
(great schoolers and very active)

Khuli loaches: http://fish.orbust.net/kuhliloaches.html if you decide to get sand because they like to burrow, apparantly they can be shy but all the ones I have seen are very playful when kept in groups. The black ones are especially gorgeous.

And any type of cories or otos: http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/c_paleatus.htm http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/otocinclusart.htm
These would prefer sand also.

Hope this helps

FAKE OR REAL PLANTS
i spent a lot of money in live plants had luck in my old tank and my new tank did not so i bought a lot of silk plants

I have a 20H, its a little overtocked right now until I move some to 10g. I have guppies, platys, swortails, 1 gourami, corys, ottos & mollies in my community.

Most of those things are a matter of personal preference. I prefer non-agressive community fish like tetras, corys etc. Most community fish are schooling fish so you want to make sure you can get at least 3 and preferably 5 or 6 of each. I also love shrimp and am searching for more now to add to my tanks. As for how many, the 1" per gallon rule is a pretty good guide. If you take very good care of your tank and do weekly water changes (15% to 20%) you can exceed that a little. Shrimp are mostly pretty small so they don't create much of a bio load so you can add quite a few without any problems. I have even heard of people cycling with them.

Before you decide on what fish to get, you probably should test your pH and KH as fish like ciclids prefer higher pH and KH. Mine are very low so I have pretty much ruled out having a ciclid tank.

Sand is easier to keep clean and the corys love it but it is the hardest to get washed to start and plants don't do as well in it. I also prefer real decorations over artificial. Plants also help with algae control, taking the nutrients from the water before the algae gets them. I am going to get some artificial driftwood though as my pH & KH are already too low for me to add real driftwood.

As I said though, these are all personal preferences. I have seen pictures of beautiful tanks using all artificial decorations.

Good luck

One thing to keep in mind with plants is that you will need a stronger light source for a 20H than you would with a standard 20 gallon tank. The light has to reach plants that are a bit farther away. This could explain why you had success in your old tank, but not in the new one.

If you're looking for some live plants that will work without a stronger light source, you could try some of the low light varieties. Anubias are (in my opinion) quite pretty, and they come in a variety of sizes and leaf shapes. Java fern is also popular. Java moss and African water fern (Bolbitis heudelotii) can both be tied to a rock or some driftwood and they will go from there. None of these plants requires a lot of light. In fact, I've had problems with my anubias and African water fern when I increased the light in the tank. They will develop a type of black algae on the leaves if there is too much light. All of these plants are fairly low maintenance.

But again, it's personal preference. Fake or real, it's up to you. ;)
