20g seeded

The 20g has been running for a week or there abouts. Levels are steady, nitrite zero and nitrate about 20 (that gourami sure does like to eat).

I seeded the 20g with netted gravel from the cycled 10g and am also running the old 10g filter along with the new 20g biowheel filter. I moved a potted plant from the 10g to the 20g and added several plants I bought from the LFS from cycled tanks.

Question: When should it be safe to start moving the netted substrate out of the 20g and when can I take out the 10g filter? I'd like to start using the 10g filter to push along the cycling on the 55g. I just don't want to cause any spikes in the 20g in weaning it off the old materials.

I'd probably leave it another week then slowly begin to remove the gravel. I wouldn't pull it all out at once, as some of the bacteria on the gravel might be what is preventing a spike.

Okay, I will remove netted gravel slowly. When can I remove the 10g filter that's running in tandem with the new 20g filter?
