200l Tank Fish Cycling

Hi, acid-e welcome to the forum.

The 60 litre tank is not even near big enough for a bala whch will grow 14 inches long and should be kept in at least a group of 3. The angel will also grow too big and the fan tail being a goldfish shouldn't be with tropicals. The 60 litre is only suitable for the fantail on its own as they can grow 8 inches+.

my expirence with under gravel filters is not a good one, i fing external power filters to be much better, you should try one

How they doing.

One bala survive, and back in his old tank, but still gasping but swimming and eating much better now. :D The other two didn't make it.

Thanks for asking. :)

I was such a nOOb to have bought the bala. I wasn't advised properly by the person in the small shop where I bought some of my fishes. Actually I bought them from two lame LFS.When I started reading forums, I looked for a pro LFS and found one, where I ordered my 220L. They are very professional. and had a real complete (almost) line of stuff for fish keeping. They are contractors for larger wall sized aquariums --- fresh and marine. They teach me what is right.

I was told on Tuesday (28 Feb) their stock of freshwaters will be coming it, don't know really what specific fishes. Am not sure iif I want to stock the 220L now. Can't do fishless cycling, ammonia not available here.

Thnaks for the link.

Jeyes ammonia, boots, hardware store, or b&q.

You can do fishless cycling without ammonia - use a frozen shrimp/prawn (or three) instead. Replace it every two days & monitor the water as if using ammonia.
If you add squeezings from your other tanks filter to boost start the new one, the cycle can be completed in a couple of weeks.

Getting something to rot, to produce ammonia. I will try that. Thanks.

Instead of using a cultured sponge, you can also (in the case of undergravel filtered tanks especially) place a large portion (maybe even up to 50% of the substrate if you arent going to have hardly any fish in the old tank now) of the substrate from your old tank and place it into the new one. This has the same effects as using a cultured sponge from the old tank. I've heard that alot of fishshops do this to establish new tanks because so many of them use undergravel filtration.
